How To Use Sam.Gov and ChatGPT To Win Government Contracts | Part 2

How To Use Sam.Gov and ChatGPT To Win Government Contracts | Part 2

I'm excited to share part two of my conversation with Godwin Okponganam about using SAM.gov and ChatGPT. Get excited because you’re going to learn how to write a winning proposal in only one hour.??

Why This Matters

Godwin explains that if you're a small business owner, new to government contracting or seasoned in this industry, then you know how intimidating and time-consuming proposal writing can be.

There have been people who spend anywhere from $250 a week to $5,000 or even $20,000 on proposal writing services. But big spending doesn't guarantee success.

With that said, Godwin believes these are the 3 big problems in proposal writing:?

  1. It's very time-intensive
  2. Communicating solicitation requirements back to the contracting officer is challenging
  3. There's a high risk of human error in complex solicitations

Now, Godwin also shared how to get to the root of these problems using ChatGPT.

Godwin’s Step-by-Step Guide

During our conversation, Godwin used a real solicitation for shredding and hard drive destruction services for William Beaumont Army Medical Center as the example:?

  1. Get a general feel for the solicitation (due date, small business set-aside, NAICS code)
  2. Download all documents and upload to ChatGPT
  3. Use the five-step breakdown guide to get a summary, main objectives, and requirements
  4. Find submission instructions and deadlines
  5. Ask ChatGPT to find potential subcontractors
  6. Evaluate companies against the solicitation
  7. Create a table of contents for your proposal
  8. Write an executive summary
  9. Make a pricing sheet with markup

For each step, you need to use ChatGPT to streamline the process. You can do this for things such as getting a solicitation summary or creating a pricing sheet with a discreet 20% markup.

Best Practices for Using ChatGPT in Proposal Writing

If you’re wondering how to get the most out of ChatGPT in your proposal writing process then pay attention because Godwin has some solid advice for you here:?

  • Always double-check ChatGPT's output.
  • Don't hesitate to reiterate or clarify your prompts.
  • Always review the original solicitation documents.
  • Follow updates on SAM.gov.
  • Keep in mind that you're in charge. ChatGPT is only a tool.

Stick with these tips and you’ll be confidently writing proposals.?

Tips You Can’t Afford to Neglect

Now, before you go wild with ChatGPT, Godwin wants you to keep a few things in mind:?

  • This method improves your process. It doesn't replace your expertise.
  • Always open and review the actual solicitation documents.
  • Follow the opportunity on SAM.gov for updates or cancellations.
  • The power of ChatGPT lies in how you use it - garbage in, garbage out.

Got it? Great! These reminders will definitely help you move towards your proposal writing goals. If you want more advice on how you can succeed in government contracting, then subscribe to my official YouTube channel now.?
