How to use Sales Pitches efficiently and getting your first client

How to use Sales Pitches efficiently and getting your first client

Welcome to my Blog!

I came across the idea to start a Blog (like everyone else), but not for Marketing reasons. Actually, I just want to share my mind with you on business relevant topics. As I enjoy writing I also enjoy talking, I really enjoy it a lot. So, this Blog is nothing where I want to sell to you nor where I′ll buy from you, go away creepy Sales Pitch which are flooding my E-Mail Account!

I swear in the last days I′m receiving a lot of Sales Pitches from weird companies. In my personal opinion I think it′s some mailing bots which are literally emailing every new website with a very weak pitch. Or that mail comes from an actual person. Therefore, I pity the weak pitch.

That′s in for you:

Anyway we going to let away the formals. Literally I′m writing my mind off. I would also like to share my experiences with you.

Cold E-Mails/Sales Pitches

If you want to cold e-mail or pitch someone, then you should use at least his first name. I mean nothing is easier, than finding the first name out of the person you going to pitch. In my example it′s Vefa like in [email protected] so it′s not that hard to know my name.

Personally I think cold mailing people is actually a great way to get in contact with new potential customers. But only if it′s done right.

But before, you have to know that personally I′m someone who loves to talk in person or on phone. Well no wonder, in Sales I made up to 200 cold calls a day and I loved it.

It′s a difference if you have leads or not. I worked with leads so I could directly get the contact details from the person of interest which I′m going to call and sell or make an appointment. Without a lead you have always the risk not to reach out to the person you want to and that′s the decision maker. The CEO, CFO, CTO and so on. People who have the opportunity to decide if they′ll hire a new Digital Marketer, a Developer or even just a new Secretary. Those people are the leading part and you want to reach out to them in order to cold mail them efficiently.

Let′s say you′ve got the name, e-mail and some additional information’s of this specific decision maker. What comes next?

How to start

The biggest problem with cold e-mails is, that it′s actually just some text without any emotions or any trust the reader could have in it. How should that be possible? You′re mailing him/her for the very first time and you want to establish an actual relationship. Yes, you can go brunching, taking a walk in the park and watching movies together, after you′ve got that client you′re dreaming day in and day out.

If you′re hunting for the big fish in the lake, then you want to be the best buddy in business to that company. So first of all, you have to get one foot into the company.

But how do you do this effectively?

Get your foot in!

A very simple but yet one of most effective ways to get your foot into a company is to send them a gift. Yes, so simple as it sounds.

You′ve already the contact details or at least the companies address, the e-mail and the name of the person you want to pitch. So, let′s start from there. Let′s say you want to pitch one of the biggest Marketing agencies in your country. Then you′ll most likely fail with a normal e-mail pitch.

Why?

Marketing agencies gets hundreds if not thousands of e-mails per day. So even if you have spent hours on your mailing pitch you′ll fail like the most people. You′ve to get the attention as first before you take the leading move. And even if you send your pitch directly to the Marketing Director you′ll have no more chances than before.

So send Andrea, the Marketing Director of the agency, a handwritten letter for her birthday. Go down on Facebook or twitter, find that precious Director and get to know their hobbies, what they like and what they do in their free time. Yes, it sounds pretty much like stalking, but aren′t we all a little stalker when it comes to business? We want to personalize the e-mail so this is the most essential part, cause you going to get the attention.

So you found out, that Andrea is a huge ice hockey fan. Now find out her favorite team and get the tickets for the next game, unless she posted that she′ll be seeing the next game of her team life. Then just don′t because you know she already has tickets for that game. And yes, this might be a little pricey, but it′s up to you.

Why you should have spent money

Usually the impression you′ll make is huge. Andrea will be impressed and really happy to watch her favorite team play without spending a single dime. And now comes the interesting part. If you create a unique pitch to her, then she′ll read it. She wants to know why got her the tickets and also why. So now be smart.

Don′t start directly to sell your products or services. That won′t work. Ask her how the game was and so on. Now it′s your turn to make the first business relevant step. Ask her through your pitch for an appointment just to have a little talk. Don′t sound like you hit on Andrea, you don′t want her to misunderstand your intentions. Make clear that you want to talk about business. Maybe even know her opinion. People just love to talk about themselves. So, let′s say you spend 100$ on the ticket. Now you have the chance for an appointment to present your services. Sounds costly?

No it′s not. You′re thinking in onetime movements. You should enjoy the long play. Cause the first job you going to do for the company is just to introduce yourself, so they can get to known how you′re working. If you charge 299$ for your Social Media consulting or in order to manage Social Media Accounts, then offer a discount. You want a client not a customer. Customers come for the onetime purchase and then leave. A client comes again and again. So, offer a 50% discount for the first job you′ll do for them. Instead of 299$ you charge that specific company 149$ and you know what? You′ve already earned your investment of the 100$ ticket and made 49$ profit.

Now you′re in it′s all up to you from now

Now the company may have hired you for the first job. You′re in charge of handling their Instagram account for one whole month for the charge of 149$. Now it′s all on your if you′ll turn this company into a client or a customer. You′ll have to over deliver your services and keep them on the same high level. In that way they′ll want you. They want you not for your expertise, but your personality. You′ve already made a difference to your competitors. So, take the lead and get yourself a good paying client.

If the company likes your service and if it′s ROI positive for them, then mazeltov you′re very likely to gain a client. And I didn′t tell you yet the best.

The best is that people know people who are like them. Means a Marketing company will know other Marketing companies even if it′s their competitors. Also, companies are found and manage by humans. The human mind is simple, if you′re successful then you want to show it off. By showing off other people will see that they made it only because of you.

Now lay back and enjoy the stream of clients.

That was just a joke. It′s not going to be that easy. Even if the Marketing agency will refer you to some companies, you′ll always have to keep the hard work up and hunt for the next big fish. You′ll not make it unless with a ton of hard work. So that′s just one way how you can get a client.

For sure there are plenty of chances and this is just one way how I do it with the biggest fishes in the lake.

Don′t forget, the amount you′re willing to invest is also about the possible profit of a client. Don′t invest hundreds of dollars if you know, that this client maybe invests just 2000$ dollars a year on Social Media Marketing (just to stick to the example). Also, this was just an example. You don′t have to buy an expensive ticket to get their attention. You also can start with something simple like their favorite sweets and address the gift personally to the person you want to pitch. Then you also can pick up with an e-mail Pitch and start the conversation.

This will much more effective, than sending ice cold e-mails to businesses you don′t know. And also, did you know that you can get gifts returned by your tax? No, you didn′t? Then talk to your accountant or tax consultant and ask them. I asked mine and he said me that I can spend 30$ a year per client in gifts and get them to 100% returned in my tax return. So basically it′s a free pitch. The government does help you, you just have to find out how the government is willing to help you to grow your business.
