Have you tried Mirror Work?
I took up this new habit 7 months ago as a part of a course I joined with some friends. Little did I know I'd still be doing the practice 7 months later.
It's a bit like Marmalade.
Mirror work brings up very different reactions In people, for some, it's too triggering to even begin.
For me, I felt an immediate reassuring sense of holding and calm from day one. It gave me a friend (me, in the mirror), a kind, caring, loving confident who has my back and loves me, no matter what.
The practice gives me presence. My own presence, each and every day, and because I start my day this way it means that before I see anyone or set a foot outside the door I have received love.
I have received kindness.
I have cheered myself on and I have accepted myself, flaws and all.
As I enter the waking world to start my day after the mirror work I realise I am more whole, more satisfied and more at peace than I used to be.
This is why I am still doing the mirror work.
My perception is shifting around who I am, what I have to offer and where I have been.
So what is this powerful practice?
Every morning, before I leave my bedroom I repeat these 21 sentences as I look myself deep in the eyes, with presence:
- kati, I am proud of you for... X 7 different sentences.
- Kati, I forgive you for... X 7 different sentences.
- Kati, l commit to you that... X 7 different sentences.
Give it a go! You might feel silly at first, that's okay, it won't kill you. ??
It might even shift how you show up in life!
Let me know how you get on?

3 年Absolutely! Mirror Work is definitely important. I would like to add that for individuals with PTSD this is an extremely important practice. Considering that de-personalization is one of the main symptoms of trauma, it allows for peope to “feel” and “see” themselves. Many times in my clinic, when I ask to do the mirror work, I found that people have a very hard time looking at themselves for a short amount of time. That says ALOT! People stopped recognizing themselves, taking the time with themselves, appreciating themselves, and finding the beauty in their features. There is a certain fear associated with looking too much into oneself. Whether it be externally or internally. But if the habit is formed of doing mirror work, it creates a certain bravery, and increases self-esteem in a phenomenal way. Loved loved loved the article Kati! Thank you so much for reminding us of this really important practice!
