How to Use LinkedIn to Get Clients

LinkedIn is probably the best place if you're looking for b2b clients because your clients are there, they're engaged, and they're freely self-identifying. So, it's a great place for you to find your ideal clients - if you know how to do it.

The best way to use LinkedIn is to take a page out of the old school salesman's playbook and do what's called prospecting. Prospecting is the gray area between marketing and sales where you're reaching out to someone one-on-one and you're getting them into your sales process.

Direct outreach - in a very friendly way - is the way to go with LinkedIn.

So here's what you do:

  1. Use LinkedIn's search functions to identify people who might be good potential clients.
  2. Send them a connection request and connect with them.
  3. Engage your potential clients by leading with value.

And here's the real secret - your approach has to be very friendly and you have to lead with value. If you try and sell right out the gate, without first building a relationship then you will fail. By the way, this is true for all your marketing.

Selling right away is just plain annoying. If you've ever gotten one of those emails that says "Hey! I'm so awesome buy my stuff!" then you know what I'm talking about.

Instead, you want to lead with value by being real, being honest, and being approachable. Ask them about their business, and offer valuable advice. That's how you're going to win.

That's also how you're going to use LinkedIn to get clients.

So, give it a shot! What do you have to lose? If you do some outreach, you might just get some clients.
