How to Use LinkedIn Events For Maximum Leads

I had the privilege of collaborating with LinkedIn a few years ago when they were introducing the LinkedIn event feature. Since then I've held countless events from both my LinkedIn profile and company page resulting in hundreds of leads.

Needless to say I'm a fan of LinkedIn events and next to newsletters its the feature that gives me the most ROI in my business.

What's not to love!

Would you like to know how to use LinkedIn Events for Maximum Leads?

At the time of writing this I've 777 signed up to my current event page, read on to learn more....

Jen Corcoran LinkedIn Expert for Introverts, Empaths and HSPs

Whether you're hosting an in-person event, a virtual webinar / summit, a LinkedIn live or LinkedIn audio event...

LinkedIn event pages allow you to:

  • Create your own event space on LinkedIn.
  • Invite relevant attendees from within and outside your network and communicate and engage with your attendees.
  • Grow your professional network and leverage your personal brand.
  • Promote your event, host attendees & follow up - all in one spot.
  • Invite 1000 x 1st degree connections to attend every 5 days.

Setting up a LinkedIn event page:

This can be done from within a personal profile or company page.

It's a fairly easy and quick process - the main information you need to hand is:

? date(s)

? time

? title

? description

? link (if applicable)

? speakers

I create cover images in Canva - the recommended aspect ratio is 16:9 as below.

LinkedIn events can be set up with or without a registration form.

Without a registration form anyone can attend the live even if they haven't accepted an invite to the event page.

With a registration form you must select 'register' to participate live or to watch the replay. This feature is currently available for Pages only and it gives you the option to download attendee registrations at any time.

Sidebar: If you've neglected your company page I would urge you to get it going alongside your profile as LinkedIn organic reach is starting to dwindle and will soon be pay to play. I've over 6,000 followers on my page My Super Connector because I realise at some point in the future I'll be leveraging it for boosted posts etc and you can't expect reach or event attendees if you've no followers!

LinkedIn Event - Best Practice Tips:

  • Share the Event URL with your network to spread the word. You can do this by posting on your home feed, in groups or sending DMs. You can share it outside LinkedIn directly to Facebook and Twitter.
  • If your event is a webinar style event using a third party site like Zoom / Eventbrite etc - you should mention this upfront in your event description. For e.g. I'm using HeySummit for an upcoming summit and have listed the sign up link in the details tab at the top as a lot of people don't read through details when they sign up to a LinkedIn event and presume it's a live.
  • You can also message all attendees individually. I go into this below.
  • If having multiple speakers you can invite them to feature as a speaker on the event page and encourage them to share with their network. I'm attaching a screenshot below. Currently the limit for speakers is 16 which is a tad annoying as I've over 20 amazing experts for my event! I've fed this back to LinkedIn as I'm not the only person running 5 day summits.
  • LinkedIn advocate that you create an event 2-4 weeks in advance for maximum exposure and sign ups and I agree!

Changes with LinkedIn Events and workarounds:

Sadly there is no longer a content feed assigned to events - so if you need to make changes I advise you to DM attendees one by one.

You don't need to be a 1st degree connection to message people.

This sounds laborious but is quite a quick process when you click on

'Manage Attendees'

For me the magic always happens in the DMs so this is a great place to start up a conversation either before or during an event.

  • Before - you ask them to ensure they're fully signed up and encourage them to connect with fellow attendees - you're giving them permission to connect as a lot of LinkedIn folk are a bit shy about this...(attendees are available on the networking tab - see below)
  • After - you can share the replay and ask their biggest takeaway? Once again you can encourage them to connect with attendees. Active attendees will leave comments - these are the type of people you want to be connected to!(see the comments tab below)

The biggest mistake I see made with LinkedIn events is that people set one up and post it and then never invite anyone to join????

They post once and get about 2 attendees and that's it!

For a lot of people it's mindset issues as they don't want to feel like they're bothering people but at the end of the day it's a tool to be utilised and you're shooting yourself in the foot if you don't learn how to properly leverage LinkedIn.

You're wasting days, weeks, months and years...

Would you like to hear me chatting about this as a way to consolidate this newsletter?

Stuck on what to say in the DMs to your attendees?

Check out my recent podcast with the fab April Beach (click the image below)

At the end of the chat we discuss paid events and we would love to hear below in the comments if you've had success with doing this! Feel free to share your links.

Will you be creating a LinkedIn event?

Have you made the most of current and past events as an attendee or host?

Let me know below in the comments.

At the time of writing this I've about 777 signed up for my current LinkedIn event.

Let me know if you're going to attend The HSP Awakening Virtual Summit!

And yes I'll be nudging everyone in the DMs as above!

One of the best things I did on LinkedIn was connecting with more HSPs around the world (there are 2 billion of us) - if you want to find more like minds check out these hashtags in the search bar and give them a follow!

#HSPAwakeningSummit #HSP #highlysensitiveperson #highlysensitivepeople

A fantastic example of leadership! Thank you Jen for sharing your expertise in such a generous way! I personally have used LinkedIn events quite a bit this year and love the feature. My biggest struggle is getting the transition from the LinkedIn event to the actual registration link. What is your take on promoting the LinkedIn event using your business page in order to collect names and emails within the LinkedIn event? I look forward to hearing your conversation with April Beach as well as the talks in the upcoming HSP summit.

Adding a LinkedIn Live and using LinkedIn Events even for my off-platform events has really upped the quality of the attendees I get Jen Corcoran. Total game changer. As you've said, the big trick is the DMs. It's one of the easiest ways to get those conversations started in DM.
