Tell Me Your Story
Maybe I'm being a bit thick here and excuse me if I am a tad slow but the trend is currently all around personal branding, standing out, being authentic, yuk, vulnerable, yuk and all things open and personable.
Most profiles are sadly none of these things, just lists of what is provided using corporate language that masks the real person.
So why do so many profiles read like they've have been written by the same copywriter? All benefits and no personality? A dull script telling readers what they do and nothing about them?
?? We can add links into our Profiles now so why not add a link to your own recorded story? My link takes you to this video, simple audio of how I got to where I am.
This in my view enhances your profile, make it more personable and more human.Let's make it easier for people to get to know us and start that relationship building. At some point we all have to speak with prospects so let them know what your voice sounds like before the first chat.
Build the rapport ahead of the call. Establish credibility with your account of the journey to where you are and what your profile is trying to get across.
Personal Branding Thoughts
We all want to be remembered and stand out, we all do things differently with different hand writing, voices, walks the lot. I get that and get the drive to stand out but do worry that we have all become the same person.
Tom Peters wrote an amazing book that rang true in 1997 not so much in 2022, shock horror, I've said it ? This what he says personal branding is not. Skills and what you deliver matters more than what you stand for in my view.
Suddenly everyone is a personal brand which sadly means that no one is. If we all use the same words and methods to describe what we do then we have all become the same.
We are all Spartacus now ?
??Add another dimension to your profile so that it has more personality and creates the curiosity that's needed to keep prospects interested in what you deliver.
Become the voice of your sector or niche, tell an amazing story of how you and you alone can best solve the commercial issues your clients face.
??Profiles are after all filter system that should keep the target audience engaged and deter those who are not after your solution to not waste their or your time.
?? I encourage clients to think of their profile as the draft for a speech. The words may have import but when read out loud they should have impact.
How many of us have read the the seminal speeches of Martin Luther King Jr, John F Kennedy and Winston Churchill and not been moved?
How many of us have heard the words, " I have a dream..." " Ask not what your country can do for you..." " We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds...we will never surrender" and been positively transformed and transfixed by the oratory skills of these people? The power of emotion, of a pause, of a sentence delivered with such passion, that to borrow a phrase from Darkest Hour , mobilises the English language into action.
?? I am not suggesting our profiles have such impact but they have the power to change someones mind. Should I, could I work with this person? Will they deliver? Are they the same as the other half a dozen I just spoke with? What is their DNA? Can they Deliver Notable Advantage?
You can't persuade someone using the approach that everyone else adopts but you can influence by adopting your approach.
?? Give audio a chance a on your profile. I have found that profiles with an audio story on are 3 times more likely to have better engagement and conversations that result in sales outcomes. OK, not a massive edge but enough of one to think this might be worth a go.
When it comes to communication video is great but sound trumps everything. Films with no soundtracks lack a story, radio stories with no images engages the imagination, a powerful tool.
Images may move but sound travels.
???? Hope the above has helped, if so why not follow me here on LinkedIn, why not connect? I have a wealth of experience when it comes to marketing and would be happy to chat. ????
