How to Use Content to Create an Amazing Personal Brand

Personal branding is one of those buzz words more honored in the breach than in the observance.

People mistakenly think it's shouting from the rooftops how great you are. But it's not talking about yourself.

It's adding value, and packaging and sharing your expertise.

It's distinguishing you from others in your field.

How do you establish your brand? How do you make it real?

The answer is content marketing.

Content marketing is about helping your audience through content. Through blog posts, social media, videos, podcasts, infographics, ebooks...you name it.

Content establishes your expertise and showcases your personality.

By sharing content often, people associate you with your content.

"Oh she's the person always writing about sales technology or reinventing your career"... or you fill in the blank.

You're branded as an expert.

How do you ace your content marketing for personal branding?

Here are 6 ways to do so"

?? Develop a niche where you can own the space. What topics can you discuss that your audience cares about? You may be an expert in an esoteric field like the history of Moldavia but how many others care? How can you make your topic more relevant or what else can you talk about?

?? Develop an editorial calendar of topics to talk about weekly.

?? Identify relevant search terms you want to start ranking for.

?? Use LinkedIn to showcase your expertise. Post at least twice a week. Call out other experts in your posts. Respond to every comment. Comment on other pertinent posts and those people will start commenting on yours.

?? Blog regularly. Don't just do the occasional blog post. That's like shouting in a noisy room. No one will hear you. Blog at least weekly. And don't just spout the same old material. Put your own spin on what you write.

?? Guest post. Research influencers in your space and confirm if they accept guest posts. A guess post automatically widens your reach.

?? Write an ebook. An ebook gives you additional credibility. It provides something tangible to offer. And it's not as hard to do as you might think. One easy way is to turn your popular blog posts into an ebook with some connecting content between posts. Liven your book with visuals, color and fonts that make it engaging. Create a landing page for your ebook where people at minimum have to provide their name and email to download it.

I've grown two businesses using content marketing as a central strategy. If you're persistent and pick an engaging topic, you'll be effective. And you'll get smarter doing so. Nothing focuses your mind like writing about a topic.
