How to Use ChatGPT in Your Leadership Practice - *PROMPT IDEAS INSIDE*

The Question

How to use ChatGPT in leadership?

ChatGPT has made waves hitting 1 million users only 5 days post-launch.

To compare, Netflix hit 1 million users in 3.5 years, Facebook in 10 months, Spotify in 5 months, and Instagram in 2 months.

Its popularity is attributed to its capability of generating human-like responses to a wide range of questions and providing coherent content from various prompts. All while being responsive to suggestions and recommendations to expand and improve.

How can you use it to your advantage?

The Research

Consider this: ChatGPT was able to answer the technical questions to a coding interview at Google. Its results deemed it good enough for an entry-level, level three engineering position at Google. (PCMag)

As fast as ChatGPT is revolutionizing how we approach work, it is raising questions and concerns too.

  • Is it putting roles at risk?
  • If ChatGPT is still in its infancy, what more is to come?
  • Where are its limitations?

Some Advice

These questions are worth asking as we continue to explore the depths of how ChatGPT can be of service in every industry.

In terms of the risk of taking over roles, I often coach managers through a similar fear of no longer being needed by their teams.

But that precisely becomes the goal - for your team to become empowered with your coaching. It also gives you the freedom to pursue new goals as a leader and coach.

If you develop high-performing teams, you become irreplaceable along with them.

Your Hack

This week's hack is to?experiment with a few prompts with ChatGPT.

Specifically, I want you to ask yourself what you regularly do that you can delegate to ChatGPT.

Similar to the personalization of many productivity tools we already use, ChatGPT can be trained to work for your needs.

Here are some ideas to get your prompts started:

Scheduling

A necessary administrative burden you can offload given team members' availability. Scheduling across timezones, finding matching calendar availability, and meeting reminders is now one less thing for you to think about.

Centralizing your Communication

You can play around with integrating ChatGPT in your communication platforms (Slack, email, Microsoft Teams, etc.). With training, ChatGPT can answer common queries on your behalf and streamline communication.

Personal Development

You can use ChatGPT as your own new learning assistant (and encourage your team to do the same). ChatGPT can answer and explain new platforms and tools to reduce learning curve especially if you have follow-up questions on the material.

Brainstorming

A popular go-to strategy of ChatGPT is the initial heavy lifting required when starting a new project or task.

Having difficulty coming up with the first steps?

Experiencing writer's block?

Get ideas rolling with ChatGPT.

Looking to plan the next office party?

Get your list of to-dos and ideas generated and start actioning.

The sky is the limit.

Parting Thoughts

As we keep facing the challenges of the modern workplace, leaders need to embrace innovative approaches to leadership.

To do so, remember to challenge your assumptions, be open to new ideas, and never stop learning.

With the right growth mindset and tools, you can unleash the full potential for yourself, your team, and create a long-term culture of success.

While ChatGPT can teach us lots, we still need to do the work if we wish for our teams to develop. Check out my blog on creating an effective leadership culture. With insights borrowed from Unicorn Leaders Podcast Interview with Fellow.app co-founder and CEO, Aydin Mirzaee.
