How to use ChatGPT to improve your headlines

How to use ChatGPT to improve your headlines

I just wrote a how-to article on developing a value proposition and the impressions were dismal. It could be that I posted it the wrong time of day but my guess is that it is because of my lackluster headline.

?????????????? "Dare to Be Different: Develop Your Distinction"

Since I’m not an expert at headline writing, I asked Chatgpt this:

Chatgpt prompt: Write a headline that grabs attention and requires creativity and an understanding of the audience.

Here's what came back:

?1. Be Specific: Use numbers, statistics, or a clear promise to make your headline more specific and enticing. For example, "10 Ways to Boost Your Productivity Today" or "How to Lose 10 Pounds in a Month."

?2. Use Power Words: Use words that evoke emotions or curiosity, such as "amazing," "unbelievable," "secret," or "discover."

?3. Ask a Question: Pose a question that piques curiosity or addresses a common concern. For example, "Are You Making These Common Mistakes in Your Job Search?"

?4. Use Headline Formulas: Consider using proven headline formulas, such as "How to [Achieve Desired Result] Without [Undesirable Action]" or "The Secret of [Desirable Outcome]."

?5. Highlight Benefits: Clearly state the benefits or value proposition of your content in the headline. For example, "Get More Done in Less Time with These Productivity Hacks."

The method that seems to resonate is #4, I’m going to write a “how to” headline.

Next, I asked ChatGPT:

What are the common mistakes in developing a value proposition??

The answer back was:

Common mistakes in developing a value proposition include:

1. Being Too Vague: Failing to clearly articulate the specific benefits and value your product or service offers can lead to confusion and lack of interest from potential customers.

2. Focusing on Features, Not Benefits: Highlighting features without explaining how they address customers' needs or solve their problems can make your value proposition less compelling.

3. Not Understanding Your Target Audience: A value proposition should be tailored to resonate with your target audience's needs, preferences, and pain points. Failing to understand your audience can result in a value proposition that misses the mark.

4. Not Being Unique: Your value proposition should differentiate your offering from competitors and highlight what makes it unique and better suited to meet customers' needs.

5. Being Too Generic: Using generic language or buzzwords that don't clearly communicate the specific benefits of your offering can make your value proposition less impactful.

6. Lacking Clarity and Simplicity: A value proposition should be clear, concise, and easy to understand. Using overly complex language or messaging can confuse potential customers.

The recommendation I like is #1, Being Too Vague. So, my rewrite of the headline is “How to develop a Value Proposition Without Being Vague.”

Wow that was easy. I love ChatGPT. I will repost that article now and see what happens.

Until the next time,
