How to Use ChatGPT to Grow Your Personal Brand

Let me say right off the bat that using ChatGPT or other AI tools to write your thought-leadership articles or other materials may not help you build your personal brand. Although I’m sure that someday AI will be able to mimic your personality and style and express your point of view, it is certainly not there right now. What you receive when you ask ChatGPT a question is usually accurate and often thorough, but it has one big problem:
It’s not YOU!
When you use AI to create your thought leadership, you’re making yourself a conformist robot instead of demonstrating your unique and compelling brand—the traits that distinguish you from other humans. When you delegate writing your thought leadership to an AI bot, you risk becoming a “me too” as opposed to one of a kind.
Personal branding is about standing out, not wimping out.
That said, AI can make it less time-consuming to produce thought leadership, and it can help improve the quality of your content, too!
In this episode:
ChatGPT won’t replace your brilliance, but it can be a big help. Here’s how:
Make it your muse
Whether you’re working on an article, a newsletter or a script for a video you’re eager to produce, sometimes, you just can’t begin. One way to counteract the paralysis is by asking ChatGPT for some ideas on topics in your area of expertise. One, or even a few of them, might spark inspiration. And maybe, you’ll even create a series of content you hadn’t originally considered. You can ask ChatGPT, “What are the key trends in the automotive industry right now?” or “What are three problems that are keeping CIOs up at night?”
Get sources and stats
Research can take time. ChatGPT typically delivers useable data instantly. You can ask it to find you stats on topics related to your expertise and, most important for credibility, you can ask it to cite sources that you can reference in your article. This automatic research can help you back up your ideas with data.
Identify content sources
When you ask ChatGPT, “Who are the leading experts in Search Engine Optimization?” Or, “What are the top books on the topic of data mining?” you’ll get some reliable sources for content you can quote or tout in your material, and this will enable you to build relationships with people in your field.

Refine what you write
Once you’ve completed your article or script, asking ChatGPT about how it can help you get a different perspective or even reveal something that you might have missed. Use the results of AI to refine and edit what you have written.
Identify places to post
When you ask ChatGPT where you should post a specific article you have written, it may reveal new platforms you can use to expand the visibility of your content. Be very detailed so you can get even more targeted answers than the standards like Harvard Business Review and Inc. For example, “Where are the best places to publish my content about cybersecurity risks for healthcare facilities in the U.K.?” includes all the right parameters for being really useful.
Grow Your Professional Network
AI can help you connect with the right people. According to Matt Strain, an AI expert who helps “real people” understand and use artificial intelligence tools. “It's like having a digital matchmaker, connecting you with mentors and collaborators. It can go one step beyond by providing recommended talking points and suggesting areas for collaboration on thought leadership content. It's not just personalizing your career development, it's revolutionizing it.”?
See how you rank
Use ChatGPT to understand your competitors and see where you rank among the thought leaders in your field. Just ask it who are top 20 leaders are in your field of expertise. Then, check out the competition. This will give you greater clarity on your brand differentiation and allow you to create content that is more unique and in-line with your specific point of view and personality.
My Challenge for YOU!
ChatGPT is a powerful tool to support you in creating thought leadership content, but it doesn’t replace you. Use it appropriately to remain visible, available and valuable to your target audience an watch your brand grow.

11 个月William - I like using ChatGPT as my "muse." It definitely is good to help me get "started" with some idea generation. Additionally, I appreciate your emphasis on keeping things in our own voice. I use ChatGPT as a tool but definitely not the "be-all and end-all."
