One thing about me, I don't gate-keep the fundamentals behind a paywall or email opt-in.
In this tutorial, we will explore the integration of OpenAI's GPT-3 with Google Sheets.
This simple guide will provide detailed instructions to successfully integrate these powerful tools to create your own low-code tools.
It took me less than 10 minutes to get this going.
What you'll need:
Step-by-Step Instructions to connect GPT technologies to Google Sheets in 10-minutes or less:
Step 1: Create a Google Sheet
Start by creating a new Google Sheet. You can name it anything you want, but for this tutorial, let's call it "[Test] OpenAI and Sheets"
Step 2: Copy the App Script Code
The next step is to copy the app script code. This code was created by a developer named Abi Raja, and can be found in the GitHub link provided. You can download the code as a zip file or simply copy it.
Step 3: Paste the App Script Code
Go back to your Google Sheet and paste the copied code into the App Script area, which can be found under "Extensions" > "App Script."?

Step 4: Update Your Secret Key
In your App Script, update the secret key on line one with your API key from OpenAI. You can obtain this API key from your OpenAI account under "View API Keys". After copying the key, paste it into the App Script window.
Step 5: Save and Run a Test Query
Once your key is pasted and saved, you're ready to run a test query. Try out the function `=ai("write a tweet about how cool AI is", 1)` to see the AI in action.
Now, you have a fully functional connection between Google Sheets and OpenAI's GPT-3. Feel free to experiment with different prompts and observe the AI's responses.
While it's a powerful tool, remember it's not perfect and you may need to do some editing. It's also important to note that GPT-3's knowledge base ends in 2020, so it may not provide accurate responses for current events.
Enjoy experimenting with your new AI tool and look forward to future tutorials on generating specific types of content drafts.
As always, feel free to ask questions or leave comments below. Happy recruiting!
