In my last post, I talked about how keywords work and why it’s important to add them to your content (hint: they can help you attract the right audience to your brand).?
This post will cover how to use ChatGPT to find the right keywords.?
It’s all too easy to sit down and rattle off a list of terms you believe best represent your message or what you do. It’s another thing altogether to make sure the words you choose will help search engines like Google see your content as relevant enough to push it ahead of millions of other pieces of content on the same topic.
Generally, this is where keyword research comes in. You’d use a tool like Google Keyword Planner to see how many people search for the keyword you want to use per month. You don’t want to pick the ones that get searched for the most because that means your content will get pushed to the bottom of a really big pile. The ones with fewer monthly searches, known as long-tail keywords, will get you where you want to go because they’re more specific and can help you carve out a place of your own in a unique niche. This process can take an hour or two, depending on your goals.?
AI tools like ChatGPT can make this process much easier.?
ChatGPT isn’t a traditional keyword research tool, but it can help you select keywords for your content in four important ways:
1. Brainstorming keyword ideas?
If you’re not sure what keywords would best represent your brand, ChatGPT can help.?
To begin, write a simple prompt that tells ChatGPT a little bit about your industry or niche, briefly explains your role, mission or goals and asks for a list of 10 keywords that best describe your brand. The list ChatGPT generates can help point you in the right direction and inspire your research.?

2. Identifying long-tail keywords
Long-tail keywords are specific and likely to attract targeted traffic that aligns with your content.
You can get help figuring out which long-tail keywords will work for your brand with a single prompt. Simply ask ChatGPT to create a list of long-tail keywords that best fit your role, mission or goals. Within seconds, you’ll have a list that can give you the insight you need.?
3. Suggesting keywords you haven’t considered
If you want to check to find out if the keywords you have in mind are the best ones or if you can’t think of anything at all, use ChatGPT to find the right words. ChatGPT can help you find related or synonymous terms that you can use to create content that best represents your brand.?
4. Turning questions into keywords
Keywords are the words people type into a search engine. Most often, these take the form of questions. Figuring out what your target audience might ask can help you create content that attracts their interest. These questions can be turned into content topics or used to write blog posts that directly address the needs of your audience.
