Simple and Quick Ideas That Make Branding and Storytelling Fun While Helping You Build a Online Audience
If you love mythology and Greek history, you are probably gonna like this article.
Have you ever wondered why we love stories? Why do we become stuck in a good movie and don’t see the time pass?
Why do we have interest in fiction books or Netflix series?
Well, in our ancient times, we did not always have writing to help us remember the most important aspects of our lives.
But, in ancient times we have leaders that will remember our history, our religion, our science, our arts… They would guide us, while the rest of us work daily.
Knowledge is a treasure and in that time, the more you know, probably higher in hierarchy you were.
Nowadays this is partially true, but excessive knowledge and technical skills are not necessarily converted into wealth.
But today, even consider that storytelling is an art that we know simply because we are always practicing in our daily lives, as communication skills, tell or write stories is not a normal gift to see around.
So, Why Did The Ancient Greeks Have Their Epics?
And Epic is not just a story, it is a narrative that contemplates values, principles, pillars of what forms a nation and culture.
At the same time an Epic has its hero who has to complete a difficult task to get into their promised land.
We have stories like the Iliad, Odyssey, the Bible Itself, The Lusiads.
Things like our spiritual life, our science(mythological or not), our values, our heroes, our enemies, our nightmares and our responsibilities.
All of this would be in this great story. And this story is not only the tale of a hero or a nation, but its foundation, in most cases:
“THE WHY YOU AND I EXIST AND WHAT ARE OUR MISSION IN THIS WORLD”.
How We Write Our Own Story? How We Live Our Own Adventure?
In our case today, an Epic is not just simple storytelling. It's like a magnet that not only attracts what we want or need, but attracts other people to live our dangers and opportunities with us.
So, today I made a special article that contemplates elements of a great story and how they apply in marketing.
Since this is Skill Gap Marketing and 3 of my most important principles are:
?? Simplicity
?? Practice
?? Unorthodox Thought Process
We're gonna work together here discovering the mysteries that our own stories have and how we can enjoy and develop them.
So my dear reader, hold yourself, take a good mug of coffee (Because life and reading is much better with coffee ???).
And we're gonna go on a sail adventure together, discovering and explaining key points about marketing, using and learning how to storytelling in a simple and effective fun way.
With this said, let’s dive in.
Where Are We and Where We Go?
So, I don’t know where you are in your life, but I can say this thing (which by the way, is just statistics, not about you).
When we consider the average, that are desires most people want, which can be a higher income, less work, more free time…
When I say Epic, it is not necessary to be a billionaire or other goals that are really, really huge.
Can be 10k a month working 4 hours a day.
Personally my goals are huge, because I know:
Quote: I only have one life and I don’t believe there would be a second one, so I want to live the best life possible and at the end go to Paradise in peace.
So, what do you want and where do you go?
In history, Plato, Socrates Student, in one moment of his life desired to be a musician, but after he discovered Socrates he started to focus on higher elements of the humanity identity.
Not necessarily what we want now will be the end of our adventure, after all, we are gonna explore more and more aspects of our lives.
But, this personal Epic works for normal goals and higher ones.
Where does our journey start for we have a mission?
2 Things can be a game changing:
1?? Revelation, something new appears and your love for it changes you.
2?? Pain, something difficult, a problem happens and you have to go in a direction you don’t want.
But in both cases, our adventure start in:
The Normal Place or The Normal Life:
We start our lives together in a place where we live, a place that most people told us to live in.
Like in “The Hobbit” from Tolkien, where Bilbo was a Baggins, a person you could expect everything that was expected, nor greatness, nor adventures, not problems.
But, one day Gandalf appears and the moment he appears Bilbo was forced to live an Adventure, where every moment he needed to do the unexpected.
We start from here, waiting or seeking the moment that a normal life becomes a problem or a revelation, not necessarily a glory, but in most cases an unexpected mission.
We have the desire for money, for a better house, for pleasure, for friends, for power, for love.
So life has this moment where we are gonna pack our things, because we want to live a better life, we want a place where we are loved, valuable, respected, where we have fortune and power.
So, we need to find this place and the moment we start seeking, our adventure starts, regardless of the motivation type that has started this journey.
In our mission, our dedication to a better life, we’re gonna need more and more adventures, we need missions, we need goals, we need to find somewhere to travel.
In a philosophical way, this somewhere can be an online business, a new town, a new career, a religious life, a project like a book or community.
So, since we're gonna start, we choose an adventure we want to live.
Something we desire, but not the result (like money, power, love, etc.), but focus on choosing an action, choosing a process.
Now let s sail!!
Excluding all criticism for the colonialism system. The Portuguese were the first ones to travel the whole Atlantic and Indian ocean starting from Europe and going until they were in India.
If you ask yourself, why did they do this?
Well, the Byzantine Empire was the intermediary between the goods that came from Asia and were bought by the Venetians and other Italian powerhouses that re-sell them in Europe.
After The Fall of Constantinople and the fall of the Byzantine Empire following the rise of the Ottoman Empire, the Portuguese decided because of a series of problems, they had to go and find the Lands these products came from.
Fun fact, The Lusiads, the epic I mentioned early, was focused on this adventure of Portugal and their mission.
The Same Goes For Us:
We have something we need and this necessity came from a problem, because of it we need to find a way to solve this problem.
This solution will cost us time and exploration in search of the land and treasures that we need.
Since this is a marketing focus profile, let’s say you and I are facing a lot of problems in our daily jobs.
?? We Have No Time
?? We Became Tire of or Routine
?? Our Body is Become Less Health
?? We don’t have enough money
?? We don’t have time to have fun
So, we need to solve this by creating an online business.
Now We Were From “The Normal Life” To The Beginning Of Our Adventure.
So, we need to build a business that work:
From the point we are to the point we want to be. (And here are our adventure)
The Journey:
When You Listen Me Saying The Importance of Process and Methods — This is a lot more common in Pinterest By the Way.
What I’m saying is this 3 elements:
The Map:
A Process is nothing more than a step by step, with templates, products, services and ways to reach clients.
We have it for us to lose less time in things that don’t matter and focus our actions daily on things that will be a game changing to us.
The Compass:
Now that we know where we are and what we want, we need a daily compass.
Goals and Metrics that, since we have methods and process to help us, we use them to guide our performance and make this question have a positive answer everyday:
领英推荐
What did I did today that made my business (My journey) happen? What Did I That Made Things Come to Reality?
The Compass is a guide and a focus on where to invest actions that become productivity and outcome.
Lighthouse:
Whatever we do, always make clear and visible our goals, our values, our principles and our dreams.
Since we are going on an adventure together, having a document that always remembers us why we are working for, for what we do what we do, is one of the best ways to never give up in the middle.
Quote: When we have all these elements not only in a narrative, but in our content and products or services. We have a higher status and trust of our audience, which leads to more sales and more relevance of our brand.
Our Monsters and Nightmares:
When We Start This Journey we have our monsters, our fears, our failures and the problems we gonna face.
Yes, if you use growth mindset problems become a powerful way to succeed.
But in our cases, we still have insecurity, fear, anxiety, lack of knowledge and other conditions that make action more painful.
And dealing with these problems is crucial since, the moment we face them and keep working we make our travel happen.
Because the end of an adventure, the end of our journey will need this 2 things:
Quote: 1) Keep walking until we have reached what we promise we gonna reach -> So we walk everyday until you have done it.
Quote: 2) The end of the monster or the moment the monster is not relevant anymore.
So, our winning happen after:
?? The moment we know where we need to go
?? The moment we know how we gonna reach it
?? The moment we know our monsters and make a plan to face them
?? The action of everyday until we make it, not to see if it gonna work
?? And when we discover that the answer is not what, why, how, who -> But a Simple -> How many times I need to do this to reach the result I want.
Here is the problem of an Epic:
An Epic is the story of a nation, but is the story of a Person, of a Hero.
In our journey, we will have moments of pain and failure.
So, not everyone will reach the end, because an adventure is painful.
Think about marketing, you need to sell, so you need to face rejection, if you are starting you need to endure the moments you are not skilled enough to be relevant.
You need to manage your process and projects everyday, you need to invest in yourself and in your advertising.
You need to learn, you need to improve, you need to create products, you need to grow.
The Compromise You Make With Yourself is Very Painful, Is Worth it, but is Complex and Difficult.
We need the win, but we can’t escape the pain and we need to keep motivated until we make it endure the suffering and the glory with resilience.
This element is one of the greatest reasons why people need people like you or me to create business, doing online services.
This is the major insight of this Article:
You are more important and precious than you think: Because when you look at all this pain and suffering, with heroes that need to win, but need to face adversity.
The world is full of Epics and Heroes that need support to endure pain until they reach the end of their journey, to complete their mission. And this people need support.
That is the first pillar of good content, good storytelling and good branding -> What you can do to make your audience win and what you can do to make them defeat their pain.
Again, you are a hero and the more you serve others, you become a beacon of hope. So, you are valuable, because in the same journey you and I are, others are as well and they would love someone that helps them endure the pain and help the outcome happen.
This goes for financial, make money skills, health, and relationships.
People need guidance, not only because of their goal, but because they are in pain.
And a Mentor, a Lighthouse with the skills and guidance to endure and succeed in a positive outcome is not only rare, but is priceless.
With this said, now we can start the marketing:
Our treasures, How Winning is done
Results came with productivity.
Productivity is made of -> process, skills, knowledge, actions, behavior.
And any business results depend on people, connection and relationship.
So, any business needs -> Productivity and the Capacity to Generate Change. People need the skill that generates outcome using Education or Action with a Method.
Where storytelling comes?
Good storytelling has the narrative element, normally in the form of a hero and a problem.
But also, good storytelling is using clever information, mostly the current situation of the hero, their goals and dreams and their problems and failures to build a Identity.
This Identity we build attracts people that we want to work with -> I didn't say buy from us.
So here is the best tip:
We know that Actions, Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors Generate Productivity and Productivity and People are the keys to make our hero journey possible.
So where does this process go?
No Ship Can Reach Its Destiny, If It Depends on a Lonely Sailor.
And this is not just related to us, but to other people, just that are our professional colleagues, our audience, our clients and people from our niche.
No ship can sail an entire ocean if it depends on a single sailor.
Marketing is Creating Business and Relationships Opportunities
So, the moment we know to use this story structure to guide people while we guide ourselves to our goals, to reach our dreams.
We use storytelling not just to sell, but to build a Nation.
Stories attract people and build to all of us, opportunities to grow and win.
With this we build a nation to endure chaos and endure pain while we build our outcomes.
Storytelling is Exploring and Expressing Identity to Put People Together, Make Them Work Together to Endure The Pain and Never Stop Sailing Until We Reach Our Promised Land.
We build an community around:
?? Values
?? Mission
?? Pain
?? Problems
?? Failure
?? Fear
?? Joy
?? Qualities
?? Skills
?? Knowledge
?? Place
The more these elements are in our brand, our content, our business, we don’t only sell more, but we are more relevant and efficient in changing people's lives.
At the end of the day, storytelling is not just to make sales, storytelling is the way we use information and communication to build a community and make our audience and customers have a mutual commitment that we will be together until we cross the finish line and reach our goal.
