Applying for an Indian passport used to be a difficult process that was mostly handled by agents. However, thanks to improved processes and technology, things have changed in recent years. You no longer require the services of an agent and can handle everything yourself. We cover the entire process from start to finish and have user experience.?

Indian Passport Renewal vs. Reissue?

"Many people use the terms renewal and reissue interchangeably. But there is one distinction. If you have a Short Validity Passport (SVP) and want to extend its validity, the term renewal is used. You will still receive a new book in this case. In contrast to reissuance, this involves using up the pages or passport after the 10-year validity period has expired. When can? an Indian passport be renewed or reissued??

You can renew or reissue your Indian passport up to one year before the expiration date. If you are a student, you can have your passport reissued within two years of its expiration by selecting the reason "Expired within three years/Expiring." If you do one of the following, you can renew or receive your passport again:?

1. Your personal details such as name, marital status, etc. has changed?

2. The passport has already expired? within the last 3 years or before?

3. The pages of your passport? are completely full and there are no pages left?

4. The passport is damaged or you have lost it.?

Below is a step-by-step guide to reissue or renew your Indian passport.?

Step 1: Register Online Account in Passport??

As paper? forms are done away with, you have to fill an Indian passport application online. Below are the details.?

The? first step is to register? the passport on the website.?

1. You just need to? go to the Passport Seva website and click on the 'New User Registration' button.?

You will be required to enter basic information as well as your email address. It's used to sign in and finish the passport application. You can select the passport office closest to your current address.?

2. Another thing is to activate your account using the email address you received and log in.?

When you log in, you will see the option "Request a fresh passport / new passport". Click on it and enter the details.?

According to the new guidelines, you can apply for a passport anywhere in India beginning in June 2018. You are not required to do it in the same state where you live. The account creation page includes a drop down menu from which you can freely select your location.?

Step 2: Complete your passport application online?

After you've activated your account and logged in, you'll be given two options. When you submit the application form, the online system will display options 1 and 2. It makes no difference which one you use; they both work the same.?

Option 1: Using the online form to complete the application online. You? need the internet.?

?Option 2 : Using the PDF form. You download the form, fill it? and then upload it.?

Option 2 PDF form is preferred because some of the information may not be easily accessible to us and we need to store information, etc. I also like the PDF format because it is detailed and easy to read. It's the same in either case.?

1. Your current address and other information already in your previous passport.?
