[Living Bigger] How to unlock overwhelm.

There is a significant life conundrum that has two polarities: becoming and being.

We can drive ourselves up the ladder of development – address inadequacies, undertake deep introspection. Strive to be better.

That can feel like it’s coming from lack – ‘I’m not enough, don’t know enough’. It can drive you, relentlessly, to be in pursuit of mastery of craft.

Becoming.

Then we may step back and wonder, is this a race to nowhere, a performance treadmill?

What about simplifying and appreciating what is right here, right now, in this moment?

Being.

This is the tension between heavily investing to become better vs being okay with exactly what is right now. It seems an 'Either / Or' option. A cruel no-win situation.

What’s the necessary third vector, the higher perspective, that gets is closer to the richness of life?

It’s a deep commitment to develop the inner skills of being even more fully present, because being in the moment will get you to the truth of whatever is happening.

When you string enough of those truths (or insights) together, you get to wisdom. And now life is much simpler, because you're working from a much richer place.

Yes, there will be legitimate grinding to get to that capability. Focus. Forgiveness. Presence of mind. Self-care.

The false idol is only straining on that exhaustingly high-performance treadmill for an external outcome. That is not going to fill the void.

Pursuit of high performance leads to mastery of craft. Pursuit of being present leads to mastery of self.

You need both. That is the double-strand helix for intimacy with life.

Great post, Bruce Ross! Overcoming overwhelm is definitely a challenge, but it's important to find a balance between striving to be better and embracing self-acceptance.

Great article, Bruce Ross! Striving to be better is important, but it's equally crucial to find balance and make time for self-care amidst the journey.
