There are 4 main stages through which you uncover your calling.
These stages are stackable.
They stack on top of each other.
The more effort you put in step 1, the stronger the foundation for steps 2-4.
And so on.

Do the hard work of removing your fears.
If your calling was, let's say, a treasure hidden in a dark forest full of monsters, then enter the forest in the darkest place.
Face your biggest fears.

Beneath the veil of ego, you will find your real self – your essence – that infinitely loving part of yourself you forgot when you "grew up".
When the Bible says we've been created in the image of God, I believe that it's this part of ourselves, rather than the body, to which it refers.
Loving yourself and others unconditionally becomes your natural way of being.
"To love others you must first love yourself - Leo Buscaglia
“If you ever allow yourself to see it will be the death of you. And that is why love is so terrifying, for to love is to see and to see is to die. But it is the most delightful exhilarating experience in the whole world. For in the death of the ego is freedom, peace, serenity, joy.” - Anthony de Mello

You know you have it when your calling is a service that comes from a place of love (rather than martyrdom - which is still ego-bound).
Service doesn't have to be suffering: e.g. doing something you don't enjoy or for not enough money.
If you're doing this as a martyr, it ain't your calling.

This is when you ensure you have resources: Gain enough skills to be really good at it. Make enough money. Have enough time. Work with the right people.
This may mean marketing yourself, trying to explain to others who want to maintain their status quo the solution/contribution you want to make.
This stage may feel like a battle, yet one you can't afford to lose if you want to keep yourself sane.
“Often in actual life [...] we encounter the dull case of the call unanswered; for it is always possible to turn the ear to other interests. Refusal of the summons converts the adventure into its negative. Walled in boredom, hard work, or "culture," the subject loses the power of significant affirmative action and becomes a victim to be saved. His flowering world becomes a wasteland of dry stones and his life feels meaningless" – Joseph Campbell

7 个月This expression is heavy, I don't think we can generalize; it's impossible for us to all be entrepreneurs; we need teams! And a lot of people just prefer to focus on other things and have their salary at the end of the month. I agree that we should build our dreams, but calling those who don't a slave is a bit much!
