When was the last time you updated your LinkedIn profile page? Are you even aware of what your potential customers see when they turn up on your page? Perhaps it’s a few lines of text about where you went and what you studied at university and an arbitrary list of your skills and interests.
Hmmmm....we can do better than that.
Let’s start with why you need to be on LinkedIn and why you need to be on it especially if you are a VEGAN business.
· LinkedIn currently has over 610 million members. The network has 303 million active monthly users, 40% of which visit the site daily
· 46% percent of the social media traffic to B2B company sites is from LinkedIn.
· LinkedIn is responsible for 80% of B2B leads from social media
But as more and more people join LinkedIn and begin interacting, learning and networking on a personal level it has become a perfect platform for B2C leads as well!
· LinkedIn allows you to search and filter people based on keywords allowing you to add your ideal clients to your network. And as a vegan they are more likely to connect with you – because we like to meet each other!
· You can connect with high level people whose attention it would be near impossible to get on other platforms or through email.
· You can build an audience of exactly the kind of people you want to hear your marketing messages. You can post content and articles which build your personal and company brand so you are top of mind when someone in your network needs your service.
If you’re vegan and selling services to other vegans, this is totally invaluable. You are not only connecting with your tribe but you’re finding your ideal clients at the same time. Chances are most things that get posted will interest you. Your client’s client could also become your client. If you catch my drift.
In a word....Brilliant
LinkedIn is like that friend who was kind of awkward when you first met her, but is now the one who inspires you, makes you laugh out loud and you want to spend all your birthdays with drinking Margaritas and dancing on a beach! Yeah, that friend.
This friend of yours needs you to put in the time and effort. You only get what you give with friendships and it’s the same for LinkedIn.
So let’s begin powering up your LinkedIn dynamo!
It all starts with that profile of yours. Click on the picture of you and lets see what we can sort out.
Profile Photo
Your photo needs to be a picture of you. If a picture of you with the wind in your hair on a beach works for your personal brand, you go for it. Someone I follow and respect is wearing glitter all over her face with a massive orange G and T outside a Wetherspoons. It’s part of her brand, she makes a lot of money writing great copy. More power to her. You just need a high quality head and shoulders shot. Don’t use a company logo for your personal profile.
Banner
That Banner at the top is a massive billboard for your business – do not leave it blank. Make sure it has a strapline, or a very short sentence saying what you do, for example, bookkeeping and accounting for vegan businesses Mine says: LinkedIn Coach for Vegan and Ethical Business. I’ve also used some deign and added my logo. I think it looks kind of cool.
Providing services
Make sure you list at least 5 skills here. These act as keywords and you will show up in search results.
Headline
Your headline should be a brief intro to who you help, to achieve what results, how and by when (if that’s possible for you). You can then add in important keywords. Don’t mention being an ‘owner’ or a CEO or use any acronyms that people won’t understand or search for.
You can follow this formula if it helps you:
Helping/supporting IDEAL CLIENT to achieve BIG RESULT through KEY SERVICE in NUMBER OF WEEKS | SKILL/ SERVICE |SKILL/SERVICE |SKILL SERVICE.
You can also add your website/ landing page in your headline if you want to draw attention to it.
About Section
You have 2000 characters (about 250 words). Let them shine!
Big hint…the About section is not actually about you so be careful not to launch into a resume here. It’s more of an executive summary of your business. You should put yourself in the shoes of your ideal/ most aligned client. What do they want to hear?
They probably want to hear briefly that you understand their specific problem and goal. For example, they want to get more qualified leads but they are not in the know about social media and they don’t have time or the inclination.
They will also want to know that you have a CLEAR solution to that problem.
That you have credibility, experience and a track record in delivering that solution.
That there are other happy customers, that you have achieved results for these customers which are the kind of results they want to achieve. You can add an excerpt of a testimonial from a credible client.
Add your packages and prices. Honestly, everyone wants to know they are at least barking in the right forest, let alone the right tree. If your services are way out of their budget you will have wasted both yours and their time getting on a discovery call.
Add a call to action. What is the next step – visit a website, send an email or make a call. Whatever it is make it a simple process. People like simple, straightforward ways to spend their cash once they know they want to buy.
Activity and Articles
Articles are a brilliant way to build your authority. They stay forever, unlike posts, they can include backlinks to your website. They can be picked up by Google too. If you have Articles and Activity selected on your public profile, make sure you have at least three good articles giving useful tips to your audience, explaining how you work, and what you can do for your clients.
Your profile will show your activity including your comments on other people’s posts. There isn’t much you can do about that, sadly – make sure you respond to comments on your own posts so that your posts show up in your activity section as much as possible.
Featured content
You can select your top articles to appear here. This is a brilliant place to add your case studies and social proof. You can also use it to build your personal brand by including your articles or featuring only the posts that include positive feedback so people see instantly the benefits working with you.
Recommendations
Make sure you have at least 5 recommendations from people who (preferably) have bought and benefited from exactly what you are selling on your profile. You can request them directly in LinkedIn if you haven’t received them already.
There are lots of other ways you can make your profile shine, and that’s before you start writing articles and posts to draw attention to it.
Your profile really is your landing page for your business. It’s a free way to showcase your services, your achievements and work to your ever-growing audience of ideal clients. Make the most of it.
