How to trend follow Individual Stocks...

Long-time listeners of our Systematic Investor series know that our regular presenters – Jerry, Moritz, Rob, Mark, and Richard share a lot of common views on Trend Following.

This is, however, not to say that there are no differences in opinion and views when it comes to the nitty-gritty details of implementing Trend Following.

Take the topic of volatility targeting. Jerry and Moritz have been very vocal of their dislike of this approach and have provided a lot of valid arguments to support this view. Rob, on the other hand, actively uses volatility targeting in his Trend Following system and has equally provided strong arguments in favour of this approach.

Another area, where we’ve seen significant differences, is the approach to Equities. Rob and Moritz take the traditional approach and get their equities exposure within trend following through index futures. Jerry, on the other hand, is somewhat unique in his approach – he is the only person on the podcast who actually trend follow individual stocks.
