How transparent should you be in your job search?

How transparent should you be in your job search?

Job searching is stressful. Even more so in a competitive job market. There are a lot of people going after the same roles. Even in the best of times, job seekers tend to be guarded throughout their process.?

Should they discuss their current compensation? Say why they are really looking for a new role? Why they left their last company? Where else they are interviewing?

I’m a firm believer in being as transparent as possible. Trust and transparency benefit all sides of the hiring process. But it is never that easy. Trust needs to be built over time. Great recruiters, whether working in search or corporate, are able to develop a rapport with job seekers.

But don’t just take my word for it. We’ve got two videos on the topic. Check them out!

Talent Insights “Things You Should Be Transparent About With Your Recruiter”

Hirewell’s?Marnie Grow ?joins?Ryan Brown ?and?Emily Goor ?for an episode of the Hirewell Update Show. Marnie shares her tip of the week. Being transparent with your recruiter because, in the end, it will help in your job search. Recruiters ask certain questions to get a full picture of your job search. It’s important to talk to your recruiter throughout the interview process about your target compensation. Those expectations may change - you might get another offer, concerns pop up, or your company might increase your current compensation or role.?

?That is beneficial information for recruiters to know. A good recruiter can advocate on your behalf:

  • They can educate hiring managers?
  • Speed up the interview timeline?
  • Get questions answered?
  • Help you rank your opportunities
  • Or set expectations so there are no surprises on either end!?

Good recruiters want the job that’s best for you at the end of the day. Being transparent with your recruiter will help that happen.

The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 63 "What Happens When You Cut Out The Recruiter?"

No one likes it when someone goes behind their back. Every agency recruiter has a horror story about a time they missed out on a placement after not getting ‘credit’ for an intro they made.

But how does this play out in the real world?

Are job seekers better or worse off? Are companies more or less likely to hire the candidate?

?Jeff Smith ?and?James Hornick ?break down the financial, ethical, and relationship ramifications in?The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 63 "What Happens When You Cut Out The Recruiter?"

Thanks for watching-
