The Role: Community-Based Tourism Coordinator (Brazil)

This is your chance to bring your expertise and energy to one of the most inspiring communities in Rio de Janeiro. As our Community-Based Tourism Coordinator, you’ll mentor and empower a local favela organization to take their tourism project to the next level—fostering meaningful, sustainable growth and ensuring a positive impact on the lives of residents.

In this role, you’ll work closely with the local community organization while collaborating with our South America Coordinator.

What You’ll Do

• Mentor the community to enhance the quality and impact of their tourism initiatives.
• Build technical skills in guiding, storytelling, and group management.
• Advise on governance to promote long-term local participation.
• Develop commercialization strategies to attract more clients and stabilize income streams.
• Cultivate a strong, trusting partnership with the Community-Based Tourism (CBT) organization.
• Monitor and follow up on the support provided to maximize effectiveness.
• Provide detailed and transparent reporting to the NGO coordination team.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who is not only skilled but deeply passionate about making the world a better place. Here’s what you bring to the table:

• Excellent communication skills and a proactive, independent approach.
• Experience mentoring community-based tourism organizations.
• Strong monitoring and reporting skills to ensure transparency and accountability.
• An empathetic, positive attitude and a knack for focusing on priorities.
• Fluency in Portuguese (native or C1 level) and either English or Spanish.

Bonus Points:

• Capacity in cooperation management.
• A “done is better than perfect” mindset.
