A quick 3 minute read today.
Let's talk about the new workforce in the restaurant industry... Along with some of the statistics associated with the "new normal"
8 out of 10 people applying for restaurant jobs have never worked in restaurants before.
To me, that translates to... only 20% of us are crazy enough to try the industry again.
Next, the average length of employment for those 80% is 52 days.
52 days before they decide restaurants aren't for them, and they quit.
I think we all know that this isn't sustainable.
We also know that workload and stress have a lot to do with retention, so have a look HERE at how we help restaurants every day to reduce stress and burnout by proactively managing employee workload.
Now I can't tell you how many times I have heard someone say to me that GEN Z is lazy, that they don't show up, they ghost interviews, or they don't want to work.
But I believe that they just have higher expectations than some of us did when we started, and that it is going to force the restaurant industry to do things differently if we hope to have them work with us.
I truly believe that GEN Z could be one of the best things to ever happen to restaurants... as long as we are prepared to listen to them and learn from them.
I am sure that this is going to cause some discussion, or some opinion... so let's talk about it. DM me Jim Taylor and let's have that discussion.
I always try to compartmentalize things, so I can really understand what is happening... and these are 4 things I think that today's generation is going to do to positively influence the restaurant industry.

These are just a few reasons why Gen Z is beneficial for the restaurant industry.
Restaurants all over the world are looking for ways to improve the work-life balance of their team, and to improve process at the same time.
That being said, I would encourage you to have a look at?Notch . They are literally shaving multiple hours a week off of management routines, allowing them to better focus on the most important things in the business more... Or just get more time off.
They are changing the industry through improved invoicing, ordering and accounts payable processes, which is an incredible opportunity, and is easily accepted by GEN Z.
Until next week,
Jim
