How-To: Threads

Threads, the new text-based social media platform, has taken the world by storm, accruing more than 100 million accounts in the first week. While every user’s Threads account is already connected to Instagram, it’s still critical to launch your unique Threads presence with intention.?

If you’re ready to create a Threads account for your organization, read on for step-by-step instructions on account creation and establishment.?

How do you start a Threads account??

Starting a Threads account is easy! Follow steps to get started:

  1. Download the Threads app.
  2. Log in with your Instagram account.
  3. On the “Profile” page, select “Import from Instagram” to import your full profile from Instagram.?
  4. On the “Privacy” page, choose between a public and private profile. We recommend a public profile for all organizations.?
  5. On the next page, select “Follow all” to transfer your Instagram following to Threads. This will alert every user that you followed them, encouraging them to follow back.?
  6. Read the terms and conditions and select “Join Threads”.
  7. Post your first Thread!

There are a variety of ways to kick off your organization’s Threads presence. Included below are a handful of examples:

Introduce your organization: Share a brief overview of your organization's mission and ask people to follow along. This will allow you to find an audience of users interested in your specific work. Remember that Threads is still new and prone to changes, so there is no need to feel pressure to meet specific metrics or create a concrete strategy. Instead, focus on authenticity, storytelling, and connecting with your audience.?

Get creative: Use a gif, meme, or trend to make your grand entrance. This is a fun and light way to capture users’ attention and engage potential followers

Start a conversation: Share a question that relates to your work to get people talking. Threads is a text-based conversational app, so ask your audience for their input on a relevant topic!
