HOW TO THRIVE IN A FAST-CHANGING WORLD.

We are living in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world.

?

There have been major shifts in the economy and technology coupled with the rise of social movements. The COVID pandemic accelerated the change we are witnessing and signaled the start of a new way of life.

?

It is estimated that in the next 10 years we'll see more changes than in the past 100 years combined. Therefore, it would be foolish not to brace yourself and strategically position yourself in this dynamic world.

?

For our fifth webinar of the year, we embarked on how to thrive in this new, fast paced world.

?

Primarily, to prosper in these times, we need to become increasingly self aware. The world we are living in demands that we have a deep understanding of ourselves and the place we are called to function in. Being able to define ourselves, our values and our definitions of success are among the things that will make us stay ahead.

?

These are some of the things that we focus on in our insightful programs at Lapid Leaders Africa.

?

Additionally, young people are finding it increasingly difficult to adapt to today's world for the following reasons;

?

  1. Isolation

?

There's a popular idea among the young generation that they can be stars all by themselves. This is incorrect. We cannot survive in today's world as loners. We need people and communities to help us stay grounded.

?

Communities challenge us to do more and go after our visions. They also expand the stories that we see.

?

2. Competition

?

There is increased competition among young people that's causing high levels of stress and pressure. Being in competition mode means you are focusing on short term thinking. It carries with it a sense of urgency. However, in matters relating to our vision, things will often take time. Be ready to go through the process.

?

The key is to understand ourselves, our vision and to put in the time. We should anchor more on long term thinking and work towards it. Our journey doesn't have to be identical with someone else's. We're all on different paths, have different goals and success will look differently for each person at each stage of life.

?

Moreover, to thrive in this volatile world, one of the biggest skills we need to foster is continuous learning.

Be a lifelong student and be intentional about the content you consume. Focus on information that will help and build you. Leverage on the internet and online resources such as podcasts and YouTube. We are in the information age and we should fully utilize it.

?

Secondly, we should build our critical thinking skills. The way we think matters more than what we know. Expose yourself to people who are thinking on a higher level than you. Also, creativity is another crucial skill that needs to be developed.?

?

Lastly, believe in yourself and learn from yourself. Everything starts from within. We should stop underestimating ourselves. We know more than we give ourselves credit for.

?

In this VUCA world, it is essential to possess a combination of continuous learning, critical thinking, agility and resilience. By cultivating these qualities, we can confidently navigate and lead in this world. Additionally, it is crucial to connect with a supportive community and gain self awareness.

?

These invaluable skills and practices will set us apart and enable our success.?
