How those weeks fly by…..

I was chatting this week to Matt Shirley who looks after contracts and compliance at Independent Agent about last week's newsletter. While still pretty athletic, Matt was a lot more athletic when he was younger, and was in fact a NZ representative long distance runner. He would run 160k’s in a week in training and was coached by the legendary Arthur Lydiard. Amongst real estate talk we chatted about last fortnights post, and about diet, exercise, and stretching and how these things can really keep you feeling younger. Maybe, I suggested, we are just trying to slow the turning of the clock.

If you want a reality check, look at this. I stumbled across a ‘weeks of your life poster’ online recently. This is a slightly alarming concept but a good one to think about. According to the calculator on the website, I have lived over half my life - 2210 still to go of my expected 4576 weeks. If you want to have a look, check it out here. If you are so inclined, you can purchase a poster and use it as a motivational tool – there are really good tips on the website – or you can do what I do and just consider it. Just keeping a conscious track of the weeks might even be a step in the right direction.

It seems to me there is no time to waste. I don’t want to be doing things I don’t see value in, or that drag me down. I am hung up (in a positive way) on making the most of life. For me, part of making the most of life is ensuring that work is satisfying, conscious and deliberate, as well as profitable. While I am here working, I might as well be working hard. When I am not working, I need to be focused on whatever the other thing is. There is very little point, I think, in doing life in a half-baked kind of fashion. That is not to say that I do all I would like to be doing – there is always more that can be done, right?! ?

If there is something in your life that seems to be out, unenjoyable, repeatedly frustrating, have a close and honest look at it. I think given time for consideration most of us can come up with some pretty clear ideas about what might be holding us back or just making life miserable. Once you have identified it you can start to plan you way out of it.

We all know that the older we get the faster time seems to travel. Life is too short to be giving it minimal effort or to waste unproductively, whatever it is that you decide to spend your life doing.

You gotta run towards the Sun

I mentioned last week my 2023 mission is to stretch every day. Well that is not all. I also decided that I would set a target to write two new songs every month. I have been tracking at one or two new tunes a YEAR for the past few of years, so this is a real step up. The muse has been upon me and I have been writing up a storm and am ahead of schedule.

Because creativity can vanish at any time, I am making the most of it and leaning in, writing as much as I can. I will share some with you in time, as the next step is to start recording, so watch this space. One of the recent songs has a chorus line ‘You gotta run, run, run, towards the sun’. In context, this means you need to run towards your goals and what you want to achieve. It plays in my head and reminds me to keep aiming at what I am going for.

Set some targets for the year – it is never too late to start. You won’t get there unless you are pointed in the right direction and making regular advances towards the outcomes you desire.

WELCOME: Tia Logan

I would like to extend a big welcome to Tia Logan.?She joins us (in-between slips and weather events) from beautiful Tairua. Tia grew up in Auckland in a real estate family. She found out about Independent Agent when she was walking along a beach talking to someone she had just met. The word is spreading, how about that!

?

She owns and manages complementary businesses and is involved in the community in Tairua and around the Coromandel. Tia has real design flair which feeds into her marketing. I am really looking forward to working with Tia and supporting her to achieve her dreams and goals. We are busy getting her branding up and running at the moment, but in the meantime, check out her awesome (non-real-estate) website, Coromandel Goodness.
