You find your friend to be sad, frustrated, anxious, worried, feeling low… What do you do? You ask him to think positive, think good, think different. It doesn’t work at that instant as your friend is unable to take your advice and continued to be sad. Let’s understand the issue in detail.
Human mind can understand, think and feel about only those things that exists and learned in the past. If you meet an Indian and say – ANATA WA WARRUI HITODESU (Japanese language meaning YOU ARE A BAD PERSON), he would listen to it but don’t feel good or bad because there is no meaning attached it for him. However, a Japanese person would react to it and feel bad. An Indian person knowing Japanese language would also feel equally bad. That means, that our mind can act or react to only those incidents, language, thoughts that are already stored into it.
Our mind stores new learnings everyday knowingly as well as unknowingly. You are travelling on the road, watching TV and see that a person driving bike met with an accident and died on the spot. You immediately think about yourself or someone close to you (friends, family, relations etc) having similar bike that might get into such accident. This information is stored into mind. There are many such negative as well as positive memories stored in your mind and they are automatically recalled whenever you are surrounded by similar situations.
Human mind has two sections- conscious mind and sub-conscious mind. All the long term memories get stored in the subconscious mind also known as secondary memory. We work and execute our day to day routine with Conscious mind and you may be surprised to note that it contributes max 10% -20% only while subconscious mind contributes >80% in our life. So, our life is shaped based on the programing, contents of the subconscious mind. It’s very important that we take good care of the subconscious mind and help it store good things, useful & positive experiences.
Our Subconscious mind is information hungry and always in search of new items to be learned. It continuously learns as you study, do your job, watch TV, Read newspaper, talk to someone, go for a vacation, attending conferences etc. Your mind is learning wherever you are going. Hence it’s important to choose where we go, what we see and what we listen to so that subconscious picks up the right knowledge & skills for your growth, health & happiness. We are currently living in era of information overload and that makes our job more difficult to expose ourselves to only relevant and use worthy information. The key to right learning is to talk and do right rather than learning what is wrong and what not to do.
It’s important to live in a positive environment and learn to train your mind to focus on positive information and live a happy & healthy life naturally.
