How things have changed

I have just installed the latest version of the Conquest Estimating Software on my computer it got me thinking light heartedly about the changes in the industry over the last 50 years:-

The 70’s No computers, calculators the size of today’s laptops, to produce a BQ you had to write it out by hand based on the Fletcher Moore standard Phraseology and SMM6 and we then used a system called Cut and Shuffle where bits of paper were ripped up and put back in order to develop the BQ (So you needed to be able to spell) and when complete typed out on a Typewriter!!

The 80’s Computers and MS DOS and Windows, mobile phones (bricks) became more common, word processors and Conquest Software introduced. SMM7 hit the scene at the end of the year, the SMM6 was soon to be forgotten. JCT 1980 issued

I was lucky to get on board at the beginning with the first MS DOS version of Conquest this was still incredible but when the windows version came out it became so easy to use.

Trade and material print outs complete with itemized breakdowns and much more.

The 90’s JCT 1998 issued a much needed update, further improvements to both the software and computer speeds Electronic equipment continued to shrink and mobile phones would fit into your pocket, emails became more common, Microsoft office and digital cameras were introduced our lives changed!

A new Millennium, further advancements in technology, our lives run by outlook, and our mobile phones were now armed with a cameras and laptops widely used.

NRM1 introduced at the end of the year, JCT 2005 issued

What next???

Well Conquest now features Noticeboard and Builders profile incredible tools for the Industry along with other improvements including extracting Quantities from 3D Models including Revit, On Screen Take Off and Bluebeam revolutionises the way we measure.

NRM2 introduced, JCT 2011 and another revision in 2016, everyone has Sat Nav

So now we have no excuses for getting lost and not letting people know what’s happening.

Except we now spent our half day answering cold calls to get us PPI refunds or change our boiler for free and deleting Junk mail

So all the time we have saved with the advancements of Technology go out the window!!
