How Technology is Helping to Improve DEI Efforts
As technology advances how can it help to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in companies? Many organizations and nonprofits aim to offer more opportunities for people with various backgrounds and to reach a diverse audience with their services. With the help of AI and other technology these organizations will be able to more easily bridge the gap.??
For example, the use of data analytics can help companies to understand if their efforts to improve their diversity, equity, and inclusion are working. They will be able to look at specific data for each department of their company to see which of their efforts results in the most improvement. Companies will also be able to look past the department level and look at data per salary level and role. This will provide the company with a more holistic view of how their diversity and inclusion efforts work. Additionally, data analytics can collect information all the way to the applicant level so that organizations can understand and cross-check their applicants’ demographics and who they hire to see how all levels of their company impact their mission to improve diversity and inclusion. The use of technology, specifically collecting empirical data, will make the issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace be taken more seriously. Often, DEI-related issues and initiatives are not taken seriously as some believe it to be superfluous. The collection and use of data will allow for “real evidence” to be given to those in charge.??
On the other hand, there is the implementation of AI in translation tools to help foster inclusivity in the workplace and schools. This is an example where technology is actively helping us move past a barrier in our daily lives. This can help patients communicate with medical professionals and for there to be more opportunities to collaborate in the workplace with people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The addition of AI to many translation programs allows for smoother translation between parties as the AI can rely on the large amounts of data it has collected to translate phrases with more nuance and syntax than translators have been able to in the past. The improvement in translation allows for more delicate and complex topics to be discussed through the program.??
