How Tech Leader Style Impacts Performance

How Tech Leader Style Impacts Performance

Having coached technical managers in technology and engineering companies for a decade, I've noticed several consistent leadership skills gaps that limit team performance. Recently, I shared the details in this article.

Yet, there are also two main personality types/leadership styles that tend to show up in technical management.

?? The stronger “Driver” style is excellent at getting results but can burn teams out and lose top talent.

?? The softer “Accepting” style is excellent at maintaining team cohesion but can lack urgency and accountability.

If the leader is unaware of how their personality/style negatively impacts others, the common leadership gaps can get magnified, impacting their promotion potential.

Have you seen these common leadership gaps/styles in technical managers as well?

David Spungin helps technical managers maximize productivity without burnout or talent loss, using his TechLead Transform? program to develop emotionally intelligent servant leaders. As Founder & Principal Consultant at The Leader Growth Group, he’s helped 5000+ leaders achieve their full potential.
