How Fortune 500 Company Teams Performed Using Emotional Intelligence.

To get things done, I had to manage sales teams and work closely with other departments, divisions, and companies.??Whether it was for achieving shared sales objectives, troubleshooting issues, marketing, or event planning.

The traits I needed for collaboration were Emotional Expression, Assertiveness, Independence, Problem Solving, Flexibility,?Interpersonal Relations, Reality Testing, Impulse Control and Empathy.?

A study was conducted by Wolff, Druskat, Koman, and Messer (2006) of 109 teams in 6 companies (4 Fortune 500).

The study's aim was to investigate the relationship between team emotional intelligence norms and performance by looking at the development of team social capital.?

The 9 Team Emotional Intelligence norms that directly affect teams are:

1.????Interpersonal understanding

2.????Confronting members who break norms

3.????Caring behavior

4.????Team self-evaluation

5.????Creating resources for working with emotion

6.????Creating an affirmative environment

7.????Proactive problem-solving

8.????Organizational Understanding

9.????Building external relationships

?These norms created Social Capital which was demonstrated by:

·???????The feeling of safety in the team.

·???????The efficacy of the teams’ efforts.

·???????The building of relations among the team members.

Social capital then predicted performance.

The results showed that teams with higher Team Emotional Intelligence approach differences by perspective taking, information sharing, and monitoring and adjusting of team behaviors.

Teams with lower Team Emotional Intelligence are more likely to view each other as competitors and tend to avoid conflict and vent without resolution.

Clearly, emotional intelligence has an impact on productive teamwork. Teams that are encouraged to create EQ-related norms are typically more productive and collaborate more successfully as a unit.

When employees trust their team members will?regularly operate in an emotionally intelligent manner, employees are much more driven to collaborate successfully. They also provide better?customer service, work for your business longer, and offer the company more fresh ideas.

We hope you'll come up with a plan to help your teams start forming new habits, one at a time, that will improve their emotional intelligence and make it possible for them to work together more effectively. The success and profitability of your entire company depend on teamwork, and high-performance teamwork requires individual commitment.
