How to be a team member that everyone loves to have around
There’s always that one person in the team that everyone wants him or her to be around always. If you’ve worked in a team, I’m sure you would have experienced this.
Ever wondered - why is that? Why is that some people have such an overwhelmingly pleasing personality that they are desired in every team? In my life as a leader, I’ve been fortunate enough to meet and lead people who have been like this. Being the observant type of person that I am, I’ve managed to pick a few things that make these people so desirable.
In today’s post we are going to talk about a few simple tips that are going to help you become a team person that everyone likes to have around. Here’s a look at a few of the important personality traits of such people that you can imbibe in your nature to become like them -
They develop trust
It is human nature that we always like being around people we can trust. The kind of people we are talking about here have this inherent nature to build trust amongst their peers. So, the first thing you need to adopt is to be able to win the trust of others.
Here’s how you can do it -
- Become an intentional listener, so that you team members that they can turn to you whenever something is going on in their mind
- Take selfless interest in others, develop relationships that are beyond the office cubicles, and forego the transactional nature.

They make working fun
No one likes to have a teammate who is boring and creates a dull atmosphere around. The second important personality trait of team members that everyone loves to have around is their ability to make working fun.
Although this is something that comes naturally, you can acquire this trait with a little effort as well. Instead of always being dead serious about deadlines and tasks, try to ease off the pressure a little bit by casual chit chatting with your team members.
Just make sure to not go overboard with this. Develop a habit to always mix work with fun, so that things remain happy wherever you go.
They take accountability
Making work fun does not mean that these people don’t take their job seriously. In fact, it is the other way around. They always hold accountability of the work they have been assigned to accomplish.

As a matter of fact, such people are always there to help their team members as well whenever they are stuck somewhere. By helping other people in their team, they eventually make sure that everyone moves forward together. And, this is one of the most important reasons why people in the team love to have them around.
If you want to be like them, you need to develop accountability in your nature, and be certain to help people in your team in whatever way possible, genuinely.
They respect others
Humility and respect are the two traits that make any person desirable. If you want to be the star player in your team, you must always respect others. By respecting what I mean here is that respect their thoughts.
Always be respectful to their ideas, recognize their expertise and show support wherever possible. Doing these small things can eventually create a big impact on the way people around you feel and think about you.
Always remember
There’s a saying that if you have the power to make someone happy today, do it.
By inculcating these personality traits, you will emerge as a personality that everyone would love to have around. Not only will you be able to transform your life for good, but also create an impact on the lives of others as well.
And, all it requires from your end is a little conscious effort. So, are you willing to make that effort?
