How to tap into your intuition to close more deals

How to tap into your intuition to close more deals

Has there ever been a time where you had a conversation with someone and something didn't quite feel right?

Recently, I attended a business networking event (in person) with around 100 people. As we sat down to get to know each other I met a lovely lady who specialised in improving memory and cognitive function through brain training. It got me curious and as the conversation started to go deeper something didn't feel quite right. I sensed something was off and I asked the question

"Are you ok?"

Her reply was

"What do you mean?"

I replied

"My gut instinct is telling me something is off with our conversation, is everything ok?"

she replies with

"Is it that obvious?"

"I sensed it" I replied

Then she shared her story and told me of how the past year has worn her down with all the firefighting, personal challenges and emotional turmoil she has endured.

I thanked her for sharing her vulnerability and being open and honest and offered help and advice.

What is intuition and how can you tap into it?

Intuition is the way the subconscious mind communicates with the conscious mind. I call it the sixth sense. It's based on patterns from your past experiences that allow your subconscious to determine if something is real, fake, feel good or bad, right or wrong.

During my interaction my intuition was strong based on

  1. Listening to my gut instinct
  2. The vibrational energy between us
  3. The human connection we had created
  4. My observations based on the environment we were in
  5. Body language

Everyone possess intuition whether we choose to listen to our intuition is completely down to us yet as as entrepreneurs and leaders it can give us a huge competitive advantage.

How can you close more sales using your intuition?

When you met a prospect or have a first meeting with a potential client it's important to not push your own agenda onto others, your goal is build trust and human connection to see if there is an opportunity to take that conversation further. Here are a few tips that can help you become a more intuitive person.

  1. Don't ignore personal observations: Tune in with the way you feel emotionally and observe the environment around you. Be open minded and optimistic.
  2. Show empathy: When you sense something is up rather than let the conversation become uncomfortable pay attention to the other person's needs, match their conversation speed with what they feel comfortable with and forge a bond by being authentic and natural.
  3. Be vulnerable: we are conditioned to think that being emotionally vulnerable is a sign of weakness however sharing vulnerability can help the other person feel like they relate to you this helps speed up trust.
  4. Be curious and mindful: Never judge or jump to conclusions, paying attention to how the other person is feeling, ask for feedback, gleaning insight from other people’s body language and tone, and using all that to formulate an appropriate response.

Try to navigate anxiety and prevent situations from spiraling by staying in the moment and addressing things as they come, as they are.

  1. Listen: Once you start to form a bond of trust, sit back, observe and listen to what the other person wants, ask permission to offer recommendations will help you navigate the next steps.

Great article Adam Strong. I learnt early on in my career to “listen to my gut”. It’s so important. Ignoring it nearly always leads to trouble. These days, I am focused on working with clients over an extended period of time - it’s all about the relationship. And taking note of gut instinct going into a new relationship can be the difference between forging a great connection with a client you can collaborate with long term and saddling yourself with a relationship that is never going to work well.

Brilliant read Adam. I'm a great believer in that gut feeling. I know when something isn't right and can sense it and normally - 8 out of 10 I rely on it. Vx

Loved this article Adam. Our intuition is our an internal gauge of Truth and if we can recognise that will not let us down. Open, authentic and vulnerable can cut through the not so important stuff and get to true connection quickly. Thank you for the tips… you are great at breaking processes down! ??
