How to Take Action Against Anti-Black Racism (And Not Just During Black History Month)

Black History Month has come and gone, but the work of addressing anti-Black racism must continue year-round.

With so many organizations and individuals making the effort to talk about and learn about anti-Blackness, we at bci wanted to offer some concrete tools for interrupting anti-Black racism in both your workplaces and personal lives.

For leaders, I’ve created a new tip sheet that highlights how to interrupt anti-Black racism in the workplace and lead by example in creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for your team members who are Black. Download your copy here.

For individuals, I’ve created a self-reflection worksheet that includes a step-by-step guide for interrupting your own internalized anti-Black racism and for becoming a more effective ally going forward. Download your copy here.

I hope these tools help you to expand your understanding of the historic legacy of anti-Blackness and recognize the myriad examples of Black excellence, and that they inspire you to take action.

We are in a place where we as leaders, team members and individuals have an extraordinary opportunity to shift society and our workplaces for Black professionals. We must recognize that the teachings we’re focusing on in February should not be limited to a single month – we must continue the momentum to disrupt anti-Black racism and to celebrate Black excellence throughout 2021.

Thanks for reinforcing this message! A lot of people and organizations were eager to tuck away Black folks back into the closet only to be seen and heard next February!

I loved this month in particular, being stuck at home Netflix was loaded with amazing documentaries- I agree this should be all year and more content needs to come to the forefront so we can own history as history and chart a future focused on equality without marginalization ??????

Thank you, Sis, for holding space for this topic (beyond February); and so many other facets of DEI, as well.

Agreed! Humanity should be a life long commitment and not an event on your calendar.
