How to Survive & THRIVE in a Crisis

Not another coronavirus post… ??
Instead of a meme about supermarket scuffles over loo paper…
I wanted to share some thoughts on how to survive and thrive as a business at a time like this.
What makes the difference between a business that makes it through a time of panic, struggle, recession, and one that doesn’t?
How can you reframe what seems like a potential disaster into something that you can ethically take advantage of?
(And no, I’m not talking about bulk buying hand sanitiser and trying to resell it at a profit!)
Right now we’re seeing consumer behaviours change. ????
People are being mandated to work from home in many countries, and not to leave the house except to buy essentials.
With bars and theatres discouraged and football matches cancelled people will have to look elsewhere for entertainment. They’ll be on their phones much more.
Changing behaviours mean changing needs, and that means opportunity for businesses. ????
People will want to buy more stuff online, since they can’t go out.
They will want to use at-home alternatives to their usual pursuits - Skype instead of meeting at a bar; home workouts instead of the gym; Netflix and Kindle are going to have a field day… ???????
What makes the difference is your ability to ADAPT to the changing environment. Whether that means pivoting into a new market, bringing out a new product/service, taking your existing service online, starting an online shop for your retail store…
It could be simpler than that - even just adapting your marketing messaging and copywriting by alluding to the craziness signals that you understand what your customers are going through and can still meet their needs.
I acknowledge that not every business will have these options, but by adopting the mindset of adaptation and flexibility as far as possible, we can mitigate some of the damage.
I’ll share some more specific learnings from how my clients are adapting and pivoting in another post tomorrow.
Until then stay safe and keep pumping that hand sanitiser!!! ??
