How Superhuman app makes my day. Every day.

Some time ago I had a vivid discussion with my business partner Bartosz Rega about this awesome email platform. We were mentioning it multiple times and sharing our awe. Finally, other people listening to us, asked: “What’s so great about this Superhuman?”

I’ll tell you what — it’s meaningful, purposeful and turned out to be the answer to our emailing needs.

As our mission at Monterail is to deliver meaningful software, I thought that embracing other meaningful products aligns with it perfectly. So if I and Bartosz are fascinated by some beautiful apps out there and find them indispensable on a daily basis, why not speak out loud about them?

Let’s do it then.

So the app I was talking about (and would really miss it if disappeared) is Superhuman. Here’s what is so great about this product.

They entered a saturated market, dominated by global players such (hey, Gmail). Quite a brave decision if you ask me. Although at the beginning it was not all roses. However, by creating a whole process around it, they ultimately managed to find a niche, define a customer group and target them precisely. Which I guess increased user engagement as a bonus (it did to me).

And I turned out to belong to this target group, just like Bartosz who recommended Superhuman to me.

What was especially interesting to me was watching the appearance of Superhuman on this enormous market. Both intimidating and quite surprising to me.

First of all: product fit and growth. Experience with the onboarding process pumps up the engagement and gets Superhuman the feedback they need instantly. You get to take part in the video call with shared screens and immediate access to the app. But it doesn’t feel like a typical “static” demo. After every step, the human on the other side of the screen makes sure you comprehended and asks how you feel about each function. That’s learning about your user’s group on a massive scale.

Second of all: features. What appealed to me in the service and made me love it even more, was the fact that someone finally provided intuitive features that I tried to do-it-yourself for a long time in a desktop email client (and failed in most cases. Mailbutler plugin to Mailapp was getting close but not perfect). As a client using the desktop I was finally able to snooze, send later, remind if no reply and quickly sort out messages. I know there are Gmail plugins out there that do it but there are several reasons that I prefer desktop (separate conversation!).

I think this is all possible when half of the team wears a “Growth” title and the CEO is a product person.

For the purpose of this article, I asked Bartosz how he feels about Superhuman (a kind of an official statement this time). Here’s what I heard:

“I agree wholeheartedly with you and will add a few additional merits that Superhuman possesses. The service is a kind of “the whole package”. Truth be known, you don’t get any revolutionary feature whatsoever. We all know them from other platforms. But the way all the features work and look is such a finesse that the satisfaction you get is inimitable."

He added that there’s even more to this than meets the eye. The distribution process, onboarding, building users engagement are what contribute to the unique selling proposition of Superhuman.

I liked it how Bartosz summarised the idea behind this product. According to him, Superhuman seems to be business that must have curated an almost endless checklist — from finding target clients, business model, through creating a product tailored to him in 100%, finishing at taking care of all white hat growth hacks. And with incredible effectiveness, they managed to tick them all.

Bartosz articulated my thoughts about Superhuman being the "powersoft" you really want to pay for:

"Alright, I lied about the “nothing new” part. There is one great innovation— making me feel like paying for email client and its’ support.
Although it’s gotten temporarily stuck some time ago—they informed me about (how cool is that?)—and I have an individual email consultant. Whenever I want to change my email flow or ask about anything, they’re always there to help and answer with competency. It’s so crazy that I just can’t get my head around it.”

It sounds like an email Holy Grail has been found. Almost.

I must admit Superhuman is not for everyone. The level of customer engagement is high so it’s really only for people who love emailing platforms and treat it a powerful productivity tool.

It’s hard to get up on the invite list but if you would like to receive a beta invite, let me know in the comment.

P.S Have you tried Superhuman? Share your thoughts.
