How to Supercharge Your Job Search Journey

Welcome to the latest edition of Tammy Time—today your guide to transforming job searches into opportunities. Whether you're in transition or embarking on a fresh career, I've got you covered with insights from interviewing thousands of individuals.

1. Master Your Mindset: If job loss or a job search is crushing your confidence, remember, it's not a reflection of your worth it’s just where you are right now. It may sound small but this is one action that my students and clients rate as number one in supporting them to rebuild confidence……Start a Success Journal or let’s get real grab a piece of paper and write down your 2 successes every day. Okay I can hear you shouting at me but Tammy I didn’t have any success today?? Not true maybe you didn’t get a job offer today but did you get out of bed, get dressed and start applying and connecting? This is success! At first, it’s not about the type of successes it’s a brain hack to start training your brain to focus on what you are doing well and this will change how you feel and that means you will take action because you feel good! A positive mindset transforms how you present yourself to potential employers.
2. Make Your Search a Daily Mission: Instead of seeing yourself as jobless, treat your search like a full-time job. And hey why not make yourself an executive! The Chief Job Seeker! Plan daily tasks: Explore job boards, social media, social media groups! Submit resumes and applications strategically. Call, email connect with your network; let them know you're on the lookout. Attend niche networking events.
3. Craft a Compelling Resume: Ensure your resume isn't just a job history—it's a success story. Use that aforementioned success journal to write down all of your achievements. Write your success story instead of a task list. For instance, transform "I helped new employees" into "Boosted new employee productivity by 50% through strategic onboarding." I had a professional resume created that I still use as a business owner today. Check out Adrienne Tom on LinkedIn (she crafted an amazing resume for me that helped me recognize my achievements) and before you say ‘I can’t afford it’ it doesn’t cost a penny to follow Adrienne and she provides expert advice! p.s. I really do use this resume years later to show potential customers my experience in the corporate world! That is a return on investment!
4. Embrace the Brave: Step outside your comfort zone. Create a simple spreadsheet from all your connections on all social media, your phone contacts, your email list and set a target for the number of people your will reach out to everyday asking for support, to share your resume or send you any opening they see. Explore unconventional avenues, I use traditional mail or ‘snail’ mail when I can’t reach a customer I want to work with! And yes, maybe go knock on doors do a cold call. Tammy, I can’t do that! Yes, you can and you know what because not many people will do this you will have a competitive advantage. When you do something different you will interrupt the pattern of what people expect and open up a portal where they will actually listen and pay attention to you! Courage inspires admiration, and the results might surprise you. Remember, feeling good precedes doing good, leading to success.
