How is sugar made fromsugarcane

Sugar cane can generally be divided into fruit cane and sugar cane.

What is the difference between the two?

Simply put, fruit cane is a sweet, juicy, and easy-to-chew sugar cane variety, while sugar cane is the other way around. The former is generally used for fresh food, while the latter is used to make sugar.

There are mainly the following steps.

The first is press cleaning.

When the sugar canes are ripe, they are collected by harvesters, cut into small pieces, and pulled by trucks to the sugar factory.

After continuous cleaning, after cleaning some dirt on the surface, they will be mechanized and quickly pressed through a sugarcane press driven by an electric drive system to form sugarcane juice.

The remaining bagasse will reach the boiler through the bagasse conveyor, which will be used for burning power generation, which is the legendary waste utilization.

Then comes the purification step.

At this time, the sugarcane juice is still cloudy, and the mixed juice needs to be clarified first.

Specifically, it is like this: for example, adding lime, sulfur dioxide, lime milk, mud juice, etc. in it, so that impurities are precipitated, and purified sugarcane juice is obtained.

It is then placed in several large jars filled with high-temperature steam, which is continuously heated to further increase its concentration, resulting in a brown syrup.

Lastly is the cooking part.

In this step, an emulsion that promotes the crystallization of sugar is added to the syrup, and then it is cooked in a large vacuum pan. After the water in the syrup is evaporated, a paste-like crystal will be obtained, which is molasses.

Then enter the batch-type centrifuge. With the centrifugal force generated by the rapid rotation of the centrifuge, the liquid part of the molasses is thrown out, while the sucrose crystals remain in the screen basket, and the sugar material is scraped off the drum wall by the radial and axial movement of the scraper, to complete the unloading.

But at this time, the sucrose crystals still have more or less water, and can be turned into raw sugar by drying and sieving. Some of these raw sugars will be turned into white sugar, while others will be made into children's favorite candies through a series of candy-making processes.
