How To Successfully Master Project Planning

How To Successfully Master Project Planning

Planning to Succeed

Construction is a industry of craft and skill and if you look at where the process starts for a drawing to the actual building as the end result and how you get there, all comes down to planning.

There is a phrase that says "Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail"

It takes 13 hours to build a Toyota and 13 months to build a Rolls Royce

In todays high speed life its all about Time, Cost & Quality which is the most important aspect for the Customer but I do believe there is a fourth factor missing from that statement, Planning. If you take a step back to Plan, you will be able to anticipate accurately the Time the project will take, manage the cost by reducing mistakes & additional work and lastly control the quality of work by sequencing the work in the correct order and for allowing sufficient time for each Trade.

Here are some benefits that you can expect from Planning your project:

  1. Time | By planning your Project from start to finish you can determine your completion date based on your current Scope of Work. Any additional work will be factored in and automatically move out the completion date. By planning you will be able to determine whether each trade has sufficient time to finish their scope of work.
  2. Cost | Planning all the trades to follow with milestone checks in place will prevent mistakes on site that causes work to be redone or additional work that raises variation orders.
  3. Quality | Laying out the plan from start to finish will allow you to give the contractor enough time to deliver high quality workmanship that the client has paid for. Control the quality by controlling the time given for each task.
  4. Project Plan | By creating a detailed Project plan you can easily manage the day to day tasks that needs to be done, track whether the project is on track or behind, schedule the next contractor to complete his scope of work, determine the critical path to hit the deadline,
  5. Gantt Chart | A Gantt Chart will highlight where your project is behind and which tasks needs immediate attention to be rectified.

Successful project planning is crucial for the success of any project. By taking the time to carefully plan your project, you can identify potential risks and allocate resources efficiently, set clear goals and timelines, and ensure that everyone involved is on the same page. With these strategies in place, you can increase the likelihood of completing your project on time, within budget, and with the desired outcomes. Happy planning!
