Welcome to the age of transitions, intentional or unintentional. It feels that there’s more change in our air than ever before.

Perhaps it is the changing of the leaves as the warmth of yellow, orange, and red take over from the verdant summer green.? Our Texas weather has entered into the warring season between the north cool fronts and warm tropical fronts, resulting in 40 and 50-degree temperature swings in just a few days.

And then there’s the rest of the world.? All of it leads to a tremendous feeling of uncertainty.

We humans have an unusual relationship with uncertainty.? We either love it, harness it, or hate it. I am in the love it / harness-it camp.

?Years ago, in my first business, when I was on a significant journey to understand myself as I felt my way through the belly of the uncertainty beast - I took the Strengthsfinder 2.0 test.? Staring at my results of strategic, futuristic, individualistic, achiever, and activator, I pondered what it meant.

When I took the test, I thought I wanted clarity.? In the wake of the test results and growing frustration, I realized I wanted not a journey of discovery but a crystal ball. I wanted something to tell me what to do so I could get on with it.

It would take two years of sifting and sorting, conversations with God, and checking in with myself on what I wanted to start, stop, continue and change.

That multi-year journey led me to you and founding Your Biz Rules over 8 years ago.? A place that I describe as a joy, adventure, and expression of freedom through our work, creating predictable profits to grow and scale service businesses.

In short, every day, my team and I play with some smart owners doing fantastic work and creating impact and legacy in the world.? Everything that sucked my soul dry in my first business was replaced by a full expression of my strengths, even on the not-so-great days.

As the autumnal season creeps across North America, it is a great transition to take stock on what you should start/stop/continue/change in your small business.

When I completed it for myself and my business, it was more challenging than I’ve found it in the past - which tells me that we are on the cusp of opportunity and transition; we only need to harness it.?
