How to succeed and work in a multitask demanded environment?

In our day-by-day activities, we have been challenged to perform a great variety of functions, most of them with a result or goal to be delivered.

So, it’s very common nowadays to see in a resume list of skills a line describing the ability to be a multi-tasker.

However, only a few have already understood and developed that skill, which must be measured not only by the ability to deal with but actually to perform them from the start to finish without compromising the overall deadlines established.

What a few comprehend is that our brain doesn’t work like that. It is not effective/productive to start different tasks simultaneously. The result usually is catastrophic, and the sensation is equally frustrating.

To work and perform in a multitasking environment, we must orderly execute them. Our brain loves the rhythm of operating in sequence, finishing one complete task to jump into a new one. It is amazing the fulfillment sensation of completion.

Take advantage of some neurological discoveries around this theme.

Organize your day considering our brain's golden hours, which represent the most creative period of our thinking, the morning hours. So, prioritize your tasks, giving special attention to the following:

1. Appointments

2. Commitments

3. Contracts

4. Projects challenges, issues, designs solutions, and definitions

After solving them, you can jump into the second group of tasks, which comprises:

1. Checking and responding to e-mails

2. Returning calls or establishing contacts

3. Deal with non-urgent things

Of course, nothing can be rigid and 100% guaranteed of working like the structure above, but this organization usually works and will transform your work productivity and achievements.

Use an hour of your Sunday to list your week-ahead goals that, if accomplished, you will consider a successful week of work.

As a final comment, our brain is a fantastic control room capable of delivering astounding results.

However, our cognitive capabilities and performance can be affected by our overall lifestyle, which means food diet, exercise, mindfulness (meditation), and being in contact often with green areas, especially places surrounded by trees, nature trails, and forests. There are plenty of scientific studies and papers already published in medicine/neuroscience journals proving the benefits of that recipe for maintaining our brain health.

This subject can't be detailed in a single post or short article and for that reason, I strongly recommend reading the book KEEP SHARP – Build a Better Brain at Any Age, by Sanjay Gupta, MD.
