How to succeed in TikTok in 2020

When I first heard of this app, I never thought of its true potential or why it was predestined to disrupt the social media market as we know it.

So as I believe if someone never ventures and tries new ways to market himself or his business he will ineluctably fail, I downloaded a couple of months ago and started discovering around: the formats of content uploaded, the community and the reach of the platform. And at first what I came up with as conclusions were the mainstream opinions that could find all over the internet:

  • The platform is for a young audience
  • No monetization system: why should businesses and creators switch?
  • Low-quality content
  • A bad reputation in the older audiences

So I just put the app in a folder named as others on my phone and was convinced that it would not blow up. But guess what??!

As any reticent people for a change, I was looking at it all wrong: So I started hearing the opinion of the GaryVee′s of the world, reading some articles but specially joined some facebook groups with TikTok content or communities.

Soon enough many facts became clear to my eyes: This platform is disruptive and will have a predominant place in our future and that′s why:

  • First of all, let′s dissect my own assumptions then I′ll pass to the conclusions I made afterward. The platform indeed targeted a younger audience at first but we are seeing more and more adults getting ′caught′ as TikTok users would describe it within the web. Either per love of the content or just a chase for fame, the rise of the number of users is definitely not only attracting an older but retaining them as well on the platform.
  • No monetization system right? But the truth is in an era where platforms are restraining their organic reach Tiktok is just booming. Even for new users hitting a thousand or more views per video is not far fetched and if the content is adequate to the platforms, I′ve seen even users with 10k or 100k views just with one video uploaded. That being said nowadays businesses and content creators are using this early opportunity to redirect their TikTok audiences to their other social channels or website in order to convert. AND YES IT′S WORTH IT as we are witnessing much TikTok success stories
  • Low-quality content: now I hate to use these words anymore because what I originally judged was criteria like the quality of production, soundtrack and such. But using the word low quality would imply that the content is useless and cannot be used. And that′s all false when it comes to Tiktok: The amount of creatives and entertaining videos that are present over there is unbelievable: From magic to music to challenges to just awesome ideas made with just a phone in a room. It is a gold mine of content!
  • The problem that I′m seeing in common over Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter is how much their community became toxic and is easy to penetrate. Not TikTok! as it is so much community based, people that are there just to sell or to copy-paste from other social channels will surely fail. Many features allow the users to react, collaborate and create in a fast way which makes authenticity on the platform really crucial.

Now that I dissected my thoughts let me share with you why I′m sure that TikTok will explode in 2020 and how to succeed in it.

  • The app already succeeded before in China
  • The raw content is attractive nowadays
  • It is creating culture every day
  • Its a creator oriented platform
  • Apps that take over always start in younger communities and grow up
  • Creative collaboration makes content marketing go on another level
  • Celebrities are already on the platform
  • The success story like old town road and yfs are more and more common
  • Tools of creation are really well integrated into the app

Now the final step: How to succeed in TikTok in 2020

  • Create an account ( haha we all need to start)
  • Find the type of content that is interesting for you on the app: are you more there to share a laugh, share your music or take on a challenge. The challenges are predominant on the app and are a great way to interact with the targeted communities
  • Find trendy hashtags that suit your interests and observe the top publications
  • Now that you got a global idea of what and how to do a video: Start with your first upload
  • Practice every day to learn the tools offered by the platform
  • When you feel that either you became proficient at creating that type of content or learned a skill that you would like to share start by posting and interacting with other users.
  • Utilize the collaboration option where you can create a joint video with any creator you like.
  • Be authentic or you will be ignored.
  • Use hashtags like fyp or for your page and challenge to be featured on the biggest feeds
  • Be persistent and fast: No need to have a whole produced vlog or a gear. Tey to produce every day no matter if you are satisfied or not with the results
  • When you start having an audience redirect your traffic to your wanted destination
  • Start promoting your TikTok over groups and your other social channels
  • Finally, don′t take yourself too serious over there as it is still in majority populated by a young audience
