I have a confession to make – I have a soft spot for high heels.
Yes, you read that right.
Despite their notorious reputation for wreaking havoc on our feet, ankles, and posture, I believe there's more to high heels than meets the eye and I like them.
Heels are not just a fashion statement; they're a confidence booster, a power symbol, and for many, an integral part of so many powerful women personal style.
From ancient Egypt's hieroglyphic heel envy to Renaissance Europe's "sky's the limit" chopines, high heels have been strutting through history with sass and class. Heels, once worn by men before it became a feminine symbol, has been the secret weapon of queens, starlets, the cool looking lecturers and everyday heroines, adding a dash of power and a sprinkle of glamour to every step. So, before we point fingers and blame them for all our foot woes, let's give high heels the credit they deserve as symbols of empowerment and style. After all, who said you can't conquer the world in a killer pair of pumps?
Before we go strutting down the sidewalk in your stilettos after an angry TikTok tells us to throw away our shoes, let's talk about the practicality and ergonomics. Because let's face it, no one wants to spend their evening hobbling around in agony but we still want to slay.
So, here's the lowdown on how to rock those heels without sacrificing comfort.
First things first, choose your heels wisely.
Opt for heels with a wider base and lower height to provide more stability and support. Chunky heels or wedges distribute your weight more evenly, reducing the strain on your feet and ankles. Plus, they're easier to walk in, making them a win-win in the comfort department.
Next up, pay attention to the fit.

Ill-fitting shoes are a recipe for disaster, especially when it comes to high heels. Make sure there's enough room for your toes to wiggle and that your heels aren't slipping out with every step.
Now, let's talk about posture.
Wearing high heels naturally tilts your pelvis forward, putting extra pressure on your lower back. Combat this by engaging your core muscles and standing up straight. Imagine you're a Disney princess--- a string pulling you up from the crown of your head, lengthening your spine and aligning your posture.
When it comes to longevity, quality matters. Invest in well-made shoes constructed from durable materials, AKA leather.
Look for features like padded footbeds, pointed shoes for more toe space, arch support, and breathable linings to keep your feet happy hour after hour. Here's a video that perfectly sums it!
Lastly, listen to your body. If your feet are screaming for mercy, it's time to kick off those heels and give them a rest. Incorporate stretching exercises and having a handy flat shoe into your routine to counteract the tightness and tension that can build up from wearing heels. Your feet will thank you for the TLC.
Yes ladies, we can have it all! Embrace your love for fashion without sacrificing comfort or ergonomics. With the right pair of heels, the perfect dress and a little mindfulness, you can strut your stuff with confidence and grace. Happy walking!
