How To Structure Your Posts For More Views
I recently posted a PDF which contained Slides from a recent presentation. It was only two slides, but enough to spike some curiosity and click through the slides.
It didn't take off.
Why?
Structure. Now in this article, it doesn't look like a small presentation. But, it is formatted as a rectangle, 16:9 for the design geeks.
So what happened?
If you saw my post on the homefeed it would look something like this...
As you can see, the next post below is already reaching halfway up the page. This leads to the person on the feed naturally scrolling through.
Essentially leaving my post in the dust.
Social media platforms count views for as little as stopping for 3 seconds on an image, video, slide etc. Other maybe a little longer. Which is why first impressions matter.
There are a few milestones all great pieces of content reach...
We'll focus on the first milestone in this article because that's where my post failed.
Verticle is your best friend. Long pieces of content that cover enough of the page to stop the scroll. Want to see an example of this...
TikTok and Reels
The amount of engagement and views you can get from TikTok and Reels is hard to rival, and one of the biggest reasons was the single page scroll.
A video takes up the entire screen, and it's up to the user to scroll past.
The difference on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook is the feeds aren't soloscroll. One post will bleed onto the next.
Users will naturally create an endless scroll and only stop on contnet that grabs them.
I'm not embaressed to making this mistake on this presentation, It's just the nature of create and posting content.
Now I can pass on what I learned to everyone in this newsletter.
