How Strong Is Your Personal Brand?

How Strong Is Your Personal Brand?

Hold Up,

Do You Have One?

Hey there,

Welcome to the second "Package Your Career Potential" job letter issue. In this episode, I'll take you on another illuminating journey to outshine the competition. But this time, not with your skills presented on a very well-crafted CV, but with YOUR NAME.

This is also known as Personal Branding.

Exciting, right? Let's jump right into it.

In the last letter, we spoke about the importance of 'Knowing your Diamonds (worth)' and How to Communicate your Diamonds through the 'Perfect Pitch.'

Here's some good and bad news.

The bad news is that everyone applying for the job has similar qualifications and experience to yours, which is why the company also shortlisted them for interviews.

So, what makes you different?

That's where the good news comes in. Short answer: Branding YOU makes you different.

Yes, I know it sounds cliche, but stick with me.

A common misconception is that to 'impress' a recruiter or interviewer, one must reduce their true authentic self.

It is crucial to present the TRUE YOU. That is, in fact, your secret weapon because there is only one of YOU.

Like no two fingerprints are alike, no one on the planet is like you. And I've made it my job to remind you right now that presenting your authentic self is the best way to land a job that makes you truly fulfilled.

On the flip side, presenting a YOU that only bends to the job description requirement is the next best way to land a job that could depress you. And we don't want that.

Thankfully, I'm not just excellent at presenting my client's in the best possible way on paper. I have a talent for teasing the best parts of my clients, sometimes even the goldmine areas they haven't discovered yet. And I'll love to do the same for you.

So, let's talk about how to know more about YOU and CELEBRATING YOUR PERSONALITY.

Your distinct personality is your SECRET WEAPON for distinguishing yourself during the application and interview process. It's a great way to CONNECT with the person you're interviewing because it generates likeability and intrigue.

This is EXACTLY what the interviewer needs to see at the interview stage because if your personality matches the job role, it's another string to your bow, plus it leaves a memorable lasting impression (the last thing you want is to be forgetful).

So, to assist you in tapping into YOUR distinct personality, here's a favourite method that you could use to learn more about yourself and, as a result, accurately infuse into your CV, Resume, and, of course, interviews (or reach out to me to help with that).

  • Describe yourself in 3 words.
  • Ask your friends and family to describe you in 3 words.
  • How would your coworkers describe you in 3 words?
  • In 3 words, how would your boss describe you?
  • What advice would you give to your younger self about life?

These questions are intended to elicit information about what makes you unique. Then, all that is left is for you to CELEBRATE IT and SELL it to your advantage.?

Why is it that being yourself is such a good strategy? Because employers want to know the person BEHIND the CV.

This brings us to Phase Two - Establishing a Strong Personal Brand

Knowing more about yourself isn't just for CV records. It's to help you feel confident in your true authentic self. This video better communicates what I mean in terms of how this all works together;

So, "How Do You Create A Strong Personal Brand?"

Here's how not to: By trying to be somebody else (just in case you missed it the first time).

The best way to build a Personal Brand is by being YOU in public and in your place of work.

Here are some extra reasons to be you and build in public;

  • When you speak (or write) authentically and naturally, you increase your chances of making a positive connection.
  • The problem is that not everyone is aware of their TRUE POTENTIAL, so they underachieve during the application and interview process
  • You are a wonderful one-of-a-kind INDIVIDUAL, so instead of over-rehearsing an interview spiel tailored specifically for the employer, try just BEING YOUR WONDERFUL SELF.

Still not convinced? Here are four reasons to build a Personal Brand:

  • It builds affinity with your audience
  • It helps you share your authentic self
  • It encourages likeability
  • It sells you beyond your CV
  • It's a fantastic way for recruiters to connect with applicants and choose you

Thanks for this in-depth article on building a personal brand. I just learned that building a personal brand is not only in business. We can also create a personal brand through our CVs. It helps us stand out from everyone else applying for the same job, and the recruiter can see our uniqueness. This is genuinely insightful. It’s a must-read! Thanks, Judy Bullimore!
