How to strengthen the Resilience to Natural Disasters |Build Back Better
Resilience & Build Back better are the buzzword, however due the shortage of skilled tradesman the general quality of reconstruction is poor. Much of the building material is poor quality & highly overpriced priced. The reality for both terrestrial and coastal projects for most of work we have seen is far from “building back better”.
We are seeing poorly conceded seawalls, revetments, groynes, detached breakwaters, etc. Most of the work represents reactionary, ad hock “piece meal” patching “and many of the project takes for the form of defense of a particular section of the coastline, without any consideration for the adjacent coastline. Most of the detached offshore and gryones were build using a crane-thus rock armour was only placed. We strongly recommend interlocking the boulders with a crawler excavator as it can increase the design life by 10+ years.
In addition more than 50 percent of the projects were done with expensive hard options where an Eco Based soft option working in harmony with nature could have been done for at a considerable financial savings for the clients.
Strength Resilience | Build Back better since the 2017 hurricane season remind me of what they said about the voyage of Columbus.
The explorer, so the story goes, set off with only the vaguest notion of where he was going, arrived without knowing where he was, and returned without knowing where he’d been. More to the point, it was all done with borrowed money.
