How to store Astaxanthin properly?

Recently we got a message from one of our Canadian customer, that he claimed the Astaxanthin powder he recently purchased from a local supplier is with lighter color. He’s asking whether lighter color affects the quality. 

And here are some of our suggestions about how to store Astaxanthin properly. 

Firstly, Astaxanthin should be stored away from light. That supplier used transparent plastic bag to pack Astaxanthin, which is inappropriate. And it’s also the reason Astaxanthin powder oxidized after exposed to light, and color became lighter.

Correct storage is vacuum pack Astaxanthin powder with aluminum foil bags, and for long term storage (e.g, if you’re not going to use it within one month), then it’s better to keep it in cool condition (2°C to 8°C), with vacuumed aluminum foil bag.

Secondly, the relation between Astaxanthin color and quality. Natural alages (Haematococcus pluvialis) have different colors, which produce Astaxanthin powder of different colors, some with darker color, and some lighter, that doesn't affect the quality itself. 

Natural alages color is affected by its growing environment, for example, sunlight strength in different seasons. Astaxanthin come from lighter color algae will have lighter color.  

To be brief, what affects Astaxanthin quality is the storage conditions. You need to store it properly - keep away from light, and keep in cool if not use for long time.
