Shut Up, Brain!

Thinking too much should come with a warning label, “Proceed with Caution”, or maybe, “Enter at your own risk”. I heard it said that sometimes the worst place to be is in your head.

Why do we think so much? What to do next for our business? How to become a better friend? What to do to be a great mom?

What. To. Do. ugh.

Think. Plan. Think again. Ask friends. Think about what they’ve said. Ask your family (Not always the best idea). Research. Google it. Cry. Read an empowering quote. Journal. Meditate. Waste time on Instagram watching cat videos. Think some more.

Do nothing for weeks. It’s RESEARCH right?

Do you have this problem, always thinking, thinking, thinking? Where does this actually come from? I used to barely think. Ha! No, really, it’s true. I did stupid stuff. I did good stuff. I did bad stuff.

8 Secrets To Beautiful Interiors

Do you ever enter a room and think, “Wow this place looks amazing!”. Certainly you have. But what makes it good, exceptional, even great?

There are many factors that contribute to good interior design and surprise - it’s relatively straight forward. Anyone can train and learn how to create beautiful interior spaces, you simply need to know the foundation of how exceptional rooms are made before you can begin to create your very own jaw-dropping interiors. I can't lie… If you weren’t born with the “decorating gene” like some of us, it may take you a little longer to practice, however it’s not impossible at all.

Let me tell you a little story about Jen.

Creating a Yoga and Meditation Space at Home

Whenever you try something new, or add someone new to your life (cat, dog, kid, lover), it/they come with a whole WORLD of stuff that you didn’t realize existed before. When I had my baby, I felt almost shocked by all the things you needed to keep the baby happy and alive. Same with getting a dog or cat. But it’s the same with my new-ish yoga practice. I didn’t know there were corners and rooms that people dedicate to yoga at home and it comes with it’s own aesthetic and product universe.

Curious to create a yoga and mediation space in my home, I googled and swiped around Insta and Pinterest which became a two hour rabbit hole that I willingly fell into. I found photo after photo of this whole at-home yoga girl power vibe filled with fantastic products, wall prints, dried flowers and plants, oils, ceramics, natural wood, neutral colors, crystals, Tarot cards, beads, meditation pillows… I mean, wow. I had no idea.

Using Paper Collage To Piece Yourself Together

I recently enjoyed a morning of collage with Marina at Meraki, a creative teaching studio in Hannover, Germany. What a relaxing and lovely time we shared cutting, pasting, and creating! I’ll share the results of our time together below and explain paper collage, what you need to do it, and how to use it to tap into yourself and how to create art for your home.

But first, a little background about my love for collage… I was once a big fan of scrap booking in my 20’s when I lived in the United States which is kinda like art collage, isn’t it? I even sold scrap booking supplies for a year while I was in art school, which helped me pay some of my tuition.

I’ve always had a journal and created pretty pages with images in those since childhood using found papers, washi tape and stickers… I had journals of meticulously laid out stickers and others filled with my favorite teen crushes, all collaged from images sourced in magazines. When I was a model scout in Boston for a large agency, my office wall was covered collage-style with images of all of my favorite models - from floor to ceiling. I still remember spending a week to create that giant mood board...

The art of making a mood board is not that far off from collage, so if you love to create mood boards whether digitally or with your hands, I’m willing to bet you’d find it equally nice to sit down before a table of things to cut and paste and create an art collage.
