How to Stop Eating Your Feelings
If you find yourself time and time again eating your feelings when you get stressed out...
This is for you.
First forgive yourself and let go of the shame you've associated with eating too much when you're upset.
You are human, I am human, and we all have and will stress eat time to time.
Now that we've accepted that IT WILL happen sometimes, how can we make it HAPPEN LESS?
You need to give yourself a wealth of OPTIONS to turn to when you feel this way in the future.
You can...
Call a friend, take a walk, read a book, journal, pray, and most importantly...
TAKE 5 MINUTES
Literally sit there and feel the emotions, don't fight them...
Give yourself the opportunity to decide if you want that entire pint of Ben and Jerry's... or a whole pizza to yourself...
More often than not when you create this space you will choose one of the other options above.
Sometimes you won't and that's okay because you are human...
But now you're moving in the right direction and giving yourself the opportunity for growth and a better relationship with food.
It's important to acknowledge the feelings that we are having.
Whether it's stress, anger, loneliness, or simply feeling drained.
When you acknowledge thsoe feelings and don't punish yourself for having them...
Now you can do something to care for your body and give it what it needs.
Sometimes it maybe that pint of Ben and Jerry's!
A lot of times we just need a nap.
Or a hug.
Or a punching bag.
When you are able to feel those feelings and then let them out without the guilt or shame you will be able to move forward faster.
Over time you can find what works best for you when you feel a certain way and begin to move away from food as the coping mechanism.
Remember that you're not alone in this.
Regardless of where your at and what you've struggled with...
You're moving in the right direction and forward!
