How to Step Into A Great Job

How to Step Into A Great Job

How do you launch a job search to get a great new job? Here are the steps! Look for the word START in the diagram below. You'll start your job search  by zeroing in on a specific career direction. You have to have a career direction in mind so that you can brand yourself for it!

You'll choose your next career direction by looking at the types of Business Pain you solve -- not your skills or the functions and industries you've worked in so far (unless you really like those functions and industries!)!

You can switch careers at any age, as long as you can find common areas between your old career path and your new one. You'll be able to do that easily once you settle on a new career direction!

Here's a close-up of the Direction part of the diagram above. You've got to choose a new career direction before your job search goes any further!

How will you choose a new career direction? First, you'll think about Business Pain. You have power in the employment equation when you know what problem you solve.

A plumber knows what problem s/he solves for people -- and what plumbing problems cost people, too, both in dollars and cents and aggravation!

You have to know what problems you solve on the job, too.

If managers didn't have pain to relieve, they'd never hire anyone. The only reason a person gets hired at a job is that it would be more painful and more expensive to save the salary dollars and let the pain go unaddressed.

The next button in the image above, right next to the PAIN button, has a heart in it.Your new career direction should put you into a work situation you'll love. If you don't like the work you do, your workdays are going to be very long!

The last button above has a sun on it and it's labeled Mission. Why not set your career direction so that it carries forward your  mission here on the planet? If you're not sure what that mission is,  join the club! A lot of people share your confusion.

You can get perspective on your work and life and figure out what your mission is. Then you can find a job that doesn't  just pay the bills but also grows your flame!

The key is finding a way to get accepted into the inner circle of successful professionals. Most folks are on the outside looking in. To get into that circle you have to market yourself and know the right people.

Great stuff! I have taken your information, built on it, and am developing a private consulting concept that I know will work for me. Working around business pain I know exists. I'm taking my time to work out the details but I am so grateful for all of the helpful advice!
