The majority of employees are now working from home and for the vast majority of us, it is our first time experiencing home working for a long period of time. We know that it can sometimes be difficult to maintain productivity and concentration and that we all face different challenges when working from home, so we have put some tips together to help you out.
1. MAINTAIN REGULAR WORKING HOURS
Stick to your usual working hours. Setting a finish time can help you maintain productivity throughout the day, and at the same time, it will stop you from overworking after working hours.
2. SET A DEDICATED WORKSPACE
In an ideal world, we would all have an office space at home, with two screens and a coffee machine but unfortunately, that isn’t the case for most of us. Instead of lying in bed or sitting on the couch, dedicate a space that you know that you will be comfortable working from. This will help your mindset so that you know when you sit in that area, you know that you should be working.
3. STRUCTURE YOUR DAY
When you’re working from home, you need to be responsible for your own tasks. Without regular contact with your manager or colleagues, it can be easy to lose your focus. A way to help you maintain focus throughout the day is to use an online task management system, you can outline your tasks for the day/week ahead then tick them off as you go along. This may seem very simple, but physically seeing what tasks need to be done can help you focus rather than just thinking about them in your head.
4. SCHEDULE BREAKS THROUGHOUT
You know what breaks are suitable when you’re in the office, so don’t stop taking them when you’re at home. Taking the odd 5 – 10 minutes every so often, can help you to refocus and boost your productivity when you’re working.
5. STAY IN CONTACT WITH YOUR COLLEAGUES
Working from home can be good in the short term to help you focus on your own work, but long term, you can feel a bit cut off from the larger operation in the office. Staying in contact with your team can motivate you to work harder, especially when you hear about how your colleagues are getting on and what new things have been happening with the business.
