How to Stay Productive and Positive During Unemployment and Turn Your Life Around

Unemployment can feel overwhelming, but it’s also an opportunity to reset, refocus, and rebuild. Instead of letting uncertainty take over.

Why leading with gratitude is crucial in your unemployment journey?

You can tell right now how much you have used gratitude in your life. Just take a look at all of the major areas in your life: money, health, career, home, and relationships. The areas of your life that are abundant and wonderful are where you have used gratitude and are experiencing the magic of the universe as a result.

It’s a simple fact: even during unemployment when you’re not grateful for your current situation you cannot receive more in return. You’ve stopped the magic of the universe from continuing in your life. When you’re not grateful you stop the flow of better health, better relationships, more joy, more money, and the advancement of your job, career, or business. To receive you have to give. It’s the law. Gratitude is giving thanks, and without it you cut yourself off from the magic of the universe and from receiving everything you want in life.

With that being said, here’s how you can make the most of this period, while incorporating gratitude and a positive mindset, especially during hard times.

1. Update Your Resume and LinkedIn Profile with Gratitude

Take this time to refresh your resume and LinkedIn. As you do this, follow one of The Universe’s core principles: gratitude. Be grateful for the skills you’ve acquired, the experiences you’ve gained, and the lessons from past roles. Even if you’re not currently employed, appreciating your past achievements helps attract new opportunities.

2. Learn New Skills with an Abundance Mindset

Platforms like Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, and Udemy offer free or affordable courses on almost any subject. According to The Laws of the Universe, when you focus on abundance — what you have instead of what you lack — you open yourself up to more possibilities. Rather than thinking of what you’re missing out on, be thankful for the opportunity to learn new skills that will advance your future.

3. Build a Routine to Attract Positive Energy

Maintaining a grateful heart is essential for attracting what you desire. Building a routine that incorporates time for job searching, learning, and self-care helps you stay balanced and focused. Every day, take a moment to express gratitude for the progress you’re making, whether it’s a new skill you learned or simply following through with your schedule.

4. Network with Gratitude

Networking is key during unemployment. Reach out to former colleagues, attend virtual networking events, and join industry groups on LinkedIn. But this time, approach your connections with gratitude. Thank people for their time, advice, and any help they provide, whether it results in a job or not. Gratitude builds stronger relationships and leaves a lasting positive impression.

5. Freelance or Volunteer and Focus on Giving

Freelancing or volunteering keeps your skills sharp while you search for full-time work. Giving is a crucial principle in universal laws. When you volunteer, you are giving your time and talents, and that energy comes back to you in unexpected ways. Similarly, freelancing allows you to give value to others while also keeping your career momentum going.

6. Take Care of Your Mental Health with Daily Gratitude Practices

Unemployment can be stressful, which makes caring for your mental health even more critical. This is where you double down on the power of daily gratitude practices to shift your mood and mindset. Start each day by writing down three things you’re grateful for, whether it’s the support of a loved one, a new job lead, or simply the time you have to focus on yourself. Gratitude increases positivity and keeps you motivated in your job search.

As an example, despite your best efforts you’re still unemployed. To magically turn this situation around, you have to do a concentrated practice for gratitude on the situation.

Here are some examples of what you might say or journal:

  • I am so grateful to have had more time for my family during this period.
  • I’m grateful that my life is in a lot better order because of the spare time I’ve had.
  • I am grateful that I’ve had a job most of my life, and that I am experienced.
  • I am truly grateful that this is the first time I’ve been unemployed.
  • I am grateful that there are jobs out there, and more new jobs are appearing each day.
  • I am grateful for all the things I’ve learned in applying for jobs and in going for interviews.
  • I am grateful that I have my health and that I can work.
  • I’m grateful for my family’s encouragement and support.
  • I’m grateful for the rest I’ve had, because I needed it.
  • I am grateful that through losing my job, I’ve realized how much having a job means to me. I had never realized that until now.

7. Stay Positive and Be Patient with Faith in the Process

Finding a job can take time, especially in a competitive market. Patience and faith are essential ingredients for manifesting your desires. Trust that the right job is on its way to you. By focusing on the positive aspects of your situation and expressing gratitude for the small wins, you’ll maintain a positive mindset even during difficult times.

8. Practice Gratitude for the Present Moment

One of the most powerful teachings from the universe’s magic is the idea that gratitude for the present moment creates a better future. Even if you’re facing uncertainty, appreciate where you are right now. Whether it’s the opportunity to learn something new or the chance to spend more time with family, recognizing the gifts of the present helps align your energy with a positive future.

“Whoever has gratitude will be given more, and he or she will have an abundance. Whoever does not have gratitude, even what he or she will be taken from him or her.”

Conclusion

Unemployment can be challenging, but it’s also a time for growth and transformation. By staying productive, learning new skills, and incorporating the principles of gratitude, you’ll not only be better prepared for your next opportunity but also create an energy of positivity that attracts abundance into your life.

"Gratitude builds stronger relationships and leaves a lasting positive impression." Yes! The mindset of, "I get to invest time into these relationships." vs. "I have to spend time networking." is a total game changer.
